Title: PS3
Post by: Jorsher on September 11, 2010, 09:52:18 PM
So, they released a "jailbreak" a while back.

And I'm grabbing about 100 games for it now.

Going to have to buy one.

Anyone jailbreak theirs yet?

You can use some Android phones, build your own with a programmable board, a TI-84 calculator, and various other things.

Schematics to build your own tool are all over the internets.

Modchip.ca has a premade one you can buy for only about $25 IIRC.

I bought one in June and my controllers won't charge because they suck and I have to send them back to Sony.

Can a firmware update break the hack? Will newer ones in stores not be able to be jailbroken?

I think the new one did break it, but someone also said they're working on a new jailbreak for that version.  I didn't verify if that's true or not though...

I was worried about what would happen with new games, because I know Sony likes to make games only work if you have certain updates.  I'm assuming it'll be like the PSP and you'll just have to update to custom firmwares every now and then.  All too soon to really tell though.

I know there is already a bit of custom software.  Right now you are stuck with fat32 which puts you at the 4gb limit, but they're apparently working on a new jailbreak/loader that will let you use NTFS drives.

And, Sony has to be PISSED.  I'm sure they've been laughing for the past few years at all the piracy on Xbox 360.

At least now the PS3 itself is profitable, because now I might pick one up.
