Title: Anyone else having problems with Playstation Network?
Post by: 2slow on September 13, 2010, 03:04:56 AM
Playstation kicked me off a couple of weeks ago and I can't sign back in for some reason. Sometimes it gives me a trouble code and some times it doesn't. Its fucking annoying and when I call Sony they say its a problem with the router. Nothing has changed with the router so i doubt its the router.I suck when it comes to all this computer bullshit so I was hoping one of you nogs can help. Here's a quick rundown of what I know.

Rarely get a code usually just says connection timed out.
Codes I have gotten: 807100ff,80710102,8071092
Tried resetting every thing to no avail
Turned off media sharing
Tried entering in new DNS
and looking up and troubleshooting the codes for hours

Any suggestions or tips on what to do next?

i leave my ps on and signed in all the time and sometimes, in the last week more than ever, it has signed itself out but without an error message i have to manually sign back in. it used to happen a lot with my old router, but that stupid cunt would decide to fuck with my laptop wireless too

cable?

reset the actual router to factory settings with a pin?

disconnect everything.. including the cable from the router and let it sit for 10 or so minutes before you plug everything back together

cable can power the router/modem so it wont really reset untill you unplug everything

On a more serious note, have you attempted connecting the PS3 directly to your modem?  Of course you'll have to reset the modem after doing this but it'd at least rule the router out.

well I know its not the router because I can still browse the Internet on the ps3. I'm calling my internet provider,Sony, and my router manufacturer (motorola)no call of duty for 2 weeks is killing me.

I'm not saying it IS the router, but being able to browse the internet doesn't have shit to do with being able to connect to PSN, so that doesn't verify that the router isn't the issue.

Web browsing - port 80
PSN - port something else

Ports must be forwarded on the router to get Xbox live working optimally and I'm sure the same thing must be done for PS3.  I'd highly recommend connecting the PS3 via ethernet to the modem, resetting the modem, and trying to log in again.

May not be the issue but it's easy enough to try that I'd do it before dealing with any customer service reps.

I HIGHLY doubt it's your ISP.  Realize how many people would bitch?  They're going to tell you "you can browse, it's good."

Get rid of the router for a minute.

jorsher you were exactly right. IRS all fixed now. I had to call Sony and get the port numbers, then call motorola and find out how to take down the fire wall. They wouldn't tell me how to do it though because they charge money for that, but the rep told me about a site yhat had a walkthrough for my router

Good deal.

A majority of people's net problems are router/firewall related.  People hated hearing that when I worked with an ISP and thought you were just trying to pass the blame to something else, but it's the truth.  Anything in which others are directly connecting to you (file transfers, gaming, torrenting, etc) usually requires some port forwarding.  Some stuff (like the Xbox :P) will let you connect anyway, but it'll make matchmaking slow as balls.

I just realized it doesn't matter, I thought I was out of HDMI inputs, but I was wrong, still have one left.
