Trying to rule out some different problems.
When I press the clutch pedal the hard point is pretty clos to the top. And it's a very stiff pedal, after that point it is probably only a third the way to the floor.
Anything bad with this, car is pain to shift.
It a regular old double diaphragm pressure plate and solid 3 puck disk.

I've always read that pushing the diaphragm too far actually reengages the clutch.

Pretty sure I found out the problem. Pilot bearing took a shit and parts of it was everywhere.

overcentering the clutch. The fingers on the PP will grab the center of the clutch disc.

Doesn't appear to have hurt anything badly. Flywheel and pressure plate both look new. Clutch disk lost a tiny bit of friction material on the outer edge.
I've made a plate to hook a ford T5 to the Toyota.
Got a half and half clutch fork rigged up
Next on the list is taking a clutchnet ford disk I have and grinding off the rivets to get the hub off and the. Rei stalling it on the Toyota cltchnet disk.
Then homebrew shortened driveshaft.
I'm broke, but really atleast want another chance at getting I to the 9's this year.

I hate to say this, but you should have went with a c4 auto :-\ good luck with the t5. I've seen them explode with light tq put to them. But that's with a v8 and traction. Hope u get it to work for you. I would like to see your car run 9's too.

I'd rather not even have a car if it's going to be an automatic, unless it run 8's or some shit.
MY old Rx7 used 4cyl T5's and only messed up one of those and it was 500# heavier, and 60' consistently in the low 1.5's
The starlet is 2250 (probably 2220 with the T5) so hopefully they will hold up for a while, I have 4 of them.
But if it works out well, I will get a g-force straight cut gear set for one of them.

I keep forgeting that your car is about 1300lbs lighter than the cars im thinking of......lol Should be pretty bad ass.
My stepdad has a built 12.0:1 stroked out 351w in a 69 convert couger with a t5 out of a 91 cobra R. And I will say that thing is a blast to drive, but One good hard shif into 3rd gear and Im pretty sure with all the tq that thing has it would leave some of its transmission parts on the street......lol

If you shift right they seem to last. I had a four cylinder t-5 in my 90 lx and had many many passes in the low 12's high 11's on drag radials and slicks and no issues. But by the same token I had an astro performance t5 that stripped a few teeth.
