i'm considering getting certified if it isn't too much of a pain in the ass. just wondering if anyone on here can give me some insight as to what is involved. is there a written as well as practical test? i imagine i could just do it at a local college that offers testing?
-
When I did the welding course years ago at St.Lawrence collage years ago they told me that when you do the test with them you just get a 90 temp ticket. You only get your full ticket if you work for a company that is certified.
-
However once you get a ticket it looks good to others and you become more marketable even if your ticket isn't currently valid.

I am cwb certified for 3 process's in all positions. (actually I think they have all expired), but non transferable, so only at EP Industries. They are a CWB certified shop.
Aaron, are you doing any structural work? Are you looking to get your business CWB or just yourself. There is a big difference in $$$ and in the amount of paperwork.
-
cwb? is that the same thing as a WABO?
-
Same as AWS
-
cwb fluxcore?
-
LOL sure, just not in California.
-
cwb is a fucking joooke. Why do you want it Aaron? expand your shop? what type of work are you wanting to bring on? temp and non transferable. Its all just hands on weld tests.

I know it not super easy to pass. My GF is certed in 3 prosesses.I. am 1/2 way certed but haven't had time to finish yet
-
just for myself, not my business. i'm just curious to do the test to see if i'd pass.
-
There is a really wide variety of tests, I haven't taken any for about 3 years, last one was for 20,000psi for a soy bean husk machine, first ones were for shielded fluxcore for transport chassis work. Honestly there isn't much point in getting them unless you have a process you need to be certed for.

For structural: Solid wire, in any position, is pretty straight forward. So is fluxcore / metal core. I do so little stick that it is always a bitch for me in overhead.
