Title: d16z6 ek civic
Post by: notfastcrx on October 03, 2010, 12:06:48 AM
I just bought a 96 hatch with a d16z6 that still needs some wiring done. I plan on keeping it obd2 because I dont want to get stuck not being able to get it inspected in NY.

i know i have to keep the obd2 distributor, and injectors. whats the easiest way to wire up everything? my eyes hurt from trying to read through all of these honda-tech "write ups"

read anything by Katman on his FFSquad page about this.

Z6 doesn't have the OBD-2 crank angle sensor so you have to wire around it.

Assuming they don't chekc the block's code...

AFAIK you don't need the OBD2 dizzy, you can repin the connectors. The z6 dizzy is the only thing that fits it with more than 1 bolt. Then you need to add the crank flux sensor. You'll have to do some hacking, since you do not want to swap on a y8 oil pump & oil pan to get the sensor the normal way. You'll need to find the exact spot, fab a bracket, find a y7/y8 crank gear, then cut the timing cover to fit the mess down there. If you can simulate the sensor successfully, that would obviously be the better route. The PCV setup will be a little different, but that can be dealt with. Beyond that, there's not much else to do, unless you have the z6 IM and a 3-wire IACV.

no need to add the sensor, there is a wiring work around.

Obd1 dizzy pins DO NOT fit in Obd2 plugs requires some cutting and splicing lucky for you though the dizzy harness is the same colors between the two only the obd2 harness wires are wacky.

is this the distributor harness that would work instead of repinning?
