Title: in need of a cam roller rocker
Post by: speedjunky01 on October 14, 2011, 07:14:48 PM

figured I would ask for knowledge and get a discussion going before I spend hours looking over crap info

d16y5 roller rocker head and im in need of a better cam, it will be replacing the y7 head on the high comp stroker motor, if its possible to get a higher lift cam and still retain the 12v operation down low it would be nice but not needed

my ideas

-find a way to convert current cam profiles to roller profiles maybe someone already has this done?
-call bisi and see what he can do for me

Call delta and see what Jon can do for you.

yeah im sure he can just add a tad of lift and duration to the stock cam but I would like something a bit more aggressive then that  8)

but who knows maybe he has something that could work well...Ill just be working on the y5 head as a side project after a good bit of reading there isnt jack shit for the y5 except regrinds but there is no info on what is reground onto the cam...

the ported y7 with the delta 272 will do for now but I want to throw some even less often used parts at the d17y8 block

z6 head and a real man's cam and be done with it

Meh just trying to fuck around with something different it's not costing me anything really made 40 off those type r springs you sold me, head was 50, sold a bad ring a6 block (he knew I didnt  O0 him) for 100 so that will cover the regrind or close to it.

From my reading the hx head doesn't really work like vtec. When in 12v mode it still has 16v opening.
It has 1 intake roller rocker running off 1 big lobe and the other off a thin lobe that just nudges the cam open to keep fuel from collecting behind the valve. The exhaust is just running both off one lobe.

When it transitions into vtec it just locks both of the rockers together to fallow the bigger intake lobe.

So above 3000ish rpm it's acting just like a more efficient regular 16v engine non-vtec that can take much harsher ramp rates and lift because it's roller

Yeap my z7 3-stage vtec head does the same thing.  :noel:

good so lets hunt down a cam

the 3 stage is the same 1st stage then 2nd is regular vtec switching from low intake to high intake?

is it roller rocker as well?

No, I wish, it does share the same head casting as y8.  :noel:

Delta. He should have delt with roller cams before, and know what you can use. It can use a much more aggressive ramp, although you'll still want springs.

All he has to do is grind down the base circile and you get instant lift gains. Done right he can add a lot of duration.

If the base circle of the follower lobe is off by a lot it won't lock together when vtec is on, would be stuck in 12v mode

Thanks for the help guys

Then regrind all lobes. They lock after the next intake cycle.

yeah thats the plan just heard of problems with the *shocker* bisi cam not having all the lobes ground to the same circle

I find that hard to believe because "bisi" cams are Web cams and they are by far one of the best cam manufactures in the USA.

IDK guy was selling a bisi 1.5 for the y5 and said the base circle didnt  match making it a 12v motor

Y5 head is Y8 core with different valvetrain bolted on top.  I've considered tossing an aftermarket non-roller cam in and going for it.

You need to measure what the actual valve lift is.  "Change the wiper and you've changed the cam"
