Haven't seen anything posted here about it so yeah. 15 car crash.

Dan was the one they were live streaming and cut away right before impact. Pretty sure his was the one that went airborne (the front one that went flying), and cockpit side slammed into the fence/wall.

The onboard camera version I saw had a piece of debris flying at it when it cut out. Something tells me Dan was long gone before he ever hit the wall.
The car that flew into the air was Will Power. I'm surprised more people weren't hurt. In fact, I'm surprised more drivers haven't been killed in the past 8-10 years of IRL racing. Seems like every other oval race someone goes airborne into the catch fence or upside down or something. Ever time I see a car go into the fence, I think of Krosnoff at Toronto back in '96.
Why are the IRL guys going airborne all the time when the CART guys rarely ever did (and at higher speeds, no less)? Too many rookies? Inherent instability of the cars?

225 mph, foot to the floor all the way around, 34 cars, 3-4 wide racing in open wheel cars?????
Yep, it was bound to happen.
SO who will be like Sir Jackie Stewart and step up? The drivers were already worried about "the big one" in much the same way A. Senna was worried the weekend he was killed.

Yah, on a relatively short track. Coincidentally, Wheldon was testing the chassis they'll be using next year which is supposed to be safer as far as having a smaller chance of wheel lock and going airborne.

Tear off the front wing and run a front wheel into another guy's rear who's going a few mph slower. Your gumball tires clash at 2x your road speed and act like a Hotwheels car launcher does.
That said, I've never been a fan of oval or even ultra-fast drag racing. Only the crashes make it interesting, which is very sad in this case. Road course racing doesn't come close to the danger level even when they race in rain, but is far more interesting to watch. Especially when there's 3+ class cars on the field.

Yeah, roadcourse safety has improved leaps and bounds since Senna, but there are still a few really dangerous corners- the kink at elkhart lake for one. 15 feet of grass before you hit concrete.
There are already the typical "is indy racing too dangerous" questions (front page of USA Today) that always crop up when someone getsa killed and that usually don't amount to much action.
I really think you can place some blame with the sanctioning body though. Offering $5M to any non-regular who wins is only going to get you a bunch of guys who may or may not know what they're doing. Rumor is that the drivers complained that speeds were too high in practice but the IRL did nothing. When these same drivers complained of the same thing 10 years ago at texas motor speedway, CART called off the race and pissed a lot of people off, but protected their drivers.
There's a reason CART didn't have these types of accidents, despite going faster. IRL will keep hurting/killing drivers until they figure out what that reason is.

Brian Barnhart is the issue.
a restart on slicks while it is still raining @ New Hampshire????

One of my customers is friends with Graham Rahal, after the Will Powers outburst it was only a matter of time until someone was killed.
Right now the sport is on thin ice with this death. I expect Roger and Chip to speak up soon.
