This shit hit me pretty fuckin hard and really choked me up... especially since my little girls the same age. Ive seen A LOT of fukt up shit online but this is prob one of the worst... so far. Video footage of a two year old in china getting run over twice in a outside market. People look at her on the street and keep on driving/walking by. How so many just walked past her w/out any bit of concern is unreal.
Not too graphic, but very sad.

if it was a boy it wouldn't have happened that way
chinese boys and girls look the same to me... just saying

that shit is OOC

The girl died.
From what I gathered, there is so much poverty there, and it's so easy to blame the first responder as responsible for accidents, that people are afraid to have any involvement. For example, if you see someone and try to help, the poor families that can't afford the medical bills may claim you caused the accident, knowing you didn't, just to get money for the medical bills. Of course, the potential defendant also has a family that cannot afford to lose their income.
Both drivers were arrested. The one that initially hit her justified it by saying anyone would leave the scene, and it was the 2 year old's fault for not crossing the road properly.
Sad on many levels.

if the drivers werent caught it would be a sad story
but they were caught so no reason to be sad. yeah its shitty the girl died but people die all day everyday
just before i left detroit some kid got shot at the races (where i never ever went)
all his friends fled the scene and left him to slowly bleed to death. when a simple hospital trip with some pressure on the wound would have saved him (bullet missed all organs and was just a clean through on his left chest cavity or whatever its called

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
THERE GOES APPLES #1 IPHONE ASSEMBLER!!!!!!!!!
Jokes aside, that is absolutely fucked up. Fuck those people,

Ex-coworker's son is in jail for life because he dropped off a shooting victim at the hospital. I don't know the full details since the father is Puerto Rican and doesn't have the clearest accent, but from what I gather the fucked up justice system let the actual killer off easy, while his son (friend of the killer) that took the victim to the emergency room was somehow put in jail for life with no chance of parole.

its the injustice system
if you have money you walk away free if you dont well find a way to fuck you
-
What's worse is that he would have had a better chance leaving the guy there to die. Instead, he did the "right" thing by taking the victim to the hospital in an attempt to save him. He fucked up by hanging around the wrong crowd, but shouldn't be forced in a jail for the rest of his life.

So what's the problem with calling 911/local emergency, stating you saw a hit & run, then hanging up? It's not like you have to handcuff yourself to someone just to report an incident.
-
Well that can give you something to think about when you go to walmart to save $5 for some cheap Chinese shit.

Haha, I actually tried to find an online store dedicated to selling American-made products. Here's what I found for electronics:
http://www.proudamericantradingpost.com/Electronics-Home-Theater_c_27.html
The majority of Americans will never buy American for the same reason politicians will always be corrupt -- greed.
-
I buy almost all of my shit american, but like jorsher said electronics are just about impossible to find.
-
Despite Buy American being a noble and (mostly) practicable idea, I still firmly support carcinogen soup PCBs and other byproducts of mass electronics manufacture are best conducted by, and the repercussions from the waste products confined to, china.
Fuck them.

you dont like your bromides, bro?
-
I'm not advocating buy American as much as buying 1st world. Interesting note about chips, almost all of Intel's chips are made in Beaverton OR and Chandler AZ. Other "manufacturers" primarily get their chips made in Taiwan by TSMC. AMD/Global Foundries has a foundry in East Germany and they are building a new one in Albany NY right now. Chip and PCB manufacturing is very automated and therefor is not something we get slaughtered building here in the USA.
-
Turns out Global Foundries new shop is in Malta NY, not Albany.
Oh yeah IBM has a fab in East Fishkill NY as well.
Here is an AMD fab in Texas:

Some Intel automation:

Semi Conductor is alive and well in NA
-
Yep, chips produced here, but, honestly a majority of PC parts are not. I'll buy American when it's an option, and I have been meaning to check out a farmer's market but haven't got around to it yet... Grocery store down the street is just so damn convenient.
-
You guys are guilty too, sidetracking the convo about a dying 2yr old. Fuck you. ::)

Only as a step in the process that ultimately results in the isomerization of an amine, and not nearly as much as I cared over a decade ago.

You're extremely out of touch with electronics manufacture. A few high end chips found in 0.04% of the total consumer or industrial electronics produced is a drop in the bucket. Japan was maybe a quarter of it, with regards to raw component sourcing, and between tsunami and Fukushima the global EMS chain is completely fucked.
-
Sign up for Circuitnet's mailing list, they compile EMS/ODM related blogs and relevant news articles five days a week, mixed in with actual design theory and advice. You can review their archives and then see if you still disagree with me.

Lulz, this had me laughing pretty hard. Yes there is a lot of consumer SHIT made in China, most good chips and pcb's are made in Taiwan, Japan, Germany and the USA. Your comment about the industrial electronics is so far off base its not even funny. I can't think of ANY industrial controls using Chinese shit, sure there is plenty of Taiwanese stuff in industrial controls, but by and large just the low end stuff. All of my CNC's, welders, and plc's, are full of boards that are made in the USA or Japan, NONE of them have any Chinese components in them. All the machines I service outside of my shop all have pcb's and chips made in Japan or USA. If I was building a custom PLC tomorrow I would drive 30 minutes down the highway and have some custom pcb's made with off the shelf American or Japanese chips and be on my way. I am only mildly involved in the semicondutor industry, but the people I make parts for are directly involved and pumping out millions of chips and PCB's for industrial and consumer markets and I don't think they are going to care what you read in a Circuit City magazine.
By the way the ingots for chip fab are pulled by and large from the same country the fab operates from, chip fab here is not dependent on ingots from China at all.
-
Higher end products use Japanese components, cheap products don't. Foxconn is one of the largest suppliers and even though they're headquartered in Taiwan, most of the work is done in China. CNC equipment very fucking well should use quality components, for their price. However everything else electronic in the world you can bet uses cheap China shit... My motherboard advertises "Japanese capacitors." If it was the norm, they wouldn't advertise it.
On another note, some Chinese companies are going to hold rare earth metals for a while to raise the prices back up...
-

No, those are the four main points of origin for mainstream semiconductor manufacture. PCBs are sourced differently, and assembly is yet another.
Hon Hai/Foxconn is the largest/china. Flextronics started in Silicon Valley but is based these days in Singapore and has a large stake in china. Jabil remains an American company, but has also set up shop in china. Fuck, name a top 50 manufacturer that's not in china.
You can't.
-

We are sole-sourced to china for rare earth elements, aka "green technology".

I forget the exact numbers, but they supply over 90% of the rare earth minerals.
There are supposed to be some mines found elsewhere but it will of course take years before they're operational.
Can't say I blame the Chinese...or maybe we should bomb them?
-
A majority of the mines were in America. We have THE three most mineralogically diverse regions in the world (Colorado, NH, and western NC IIRC), and we were rolling our own before china flooded the market at prices we couldn't compete with since our wages are higher than a bowl of rice a day.

California is also pretty rich in the shit. Unfortunately mines don't open overnight, so I'm sure China will play this game until either they run out or they stop selling. China is going to whore themselves out until there's no resources left... Apparently they have 37% of the world's known rare earths and supply 97% of them.

Those are just ones I work with, I'm sure there are others.
Maybe not top 50 but worth mentioning:
