any nogs have any suggestions for an upgrade?
I kinda want a stock one but unless I get it for a steal no point since ill just blow it again...
-
Shitty
-
meh fuck it was gonna park it for the winter anyway and I think I can get one for 200, I sold enough off the CRX parts I had to pay for it and I was sideways a lot it was 8)
looking over on v8s2000.com for ideas the explorer 8.8 rear is looking good its cheap to source, gears are easy to match or even improve to 4.56 ;D , its aluminum so it doesnt weigh a ton, but it takes a good bit of fab work to fit it and will cost 1500ish :'( but will handle 500+
-
there is an upgrade to the OEM rear....I'd have to dig to find the info.

interested in some work maybe :)
the case is the issue it flexes it gets cryo treated and the diff collars get replaced with sleeves so it holds together better
but yeah dig it up if you dont mind I know puddydad does upgrades but for 1500 for his weakest one :P

puddydad, that is who I was thinking of.
Mustang IRS rear end? Common on LSx FD swaps.

Damn. You must be rough on your shit. This car still has stock motor, drivetrain, etc.

NA 300ZX diff rings a bell for some reason, but I cannot say for sure.
-
Bone yes the cobra rear end is IRS but the explorer is the same for all practical reasons
I wasn't doing anything crazy really I would slide it in the wet around corners and stuff in town, when it blew I just did a 5isk k culutch pop while in a corner to get it to slide a bit and POP
Drove it home at 3mph it would move if the clutch was right at slipping point if I let it out it would just grind.
-
My friend had 2 diffs replaced under warranty, the 3rd they said fuck you. All in the first 10k miles from the showroom.
That s2k is either the oddball (like a 600whp stock B) or it's modded and he never checked it.
-
s2k differentials are booty which is one of the reasons i got rid of my car. i did the math and between a crappy diff and car payments and expensive anything for s2k it got old... that being said there are cheap alternatives like the ford 8.8 but when its all said and done it wont be just 1200 like for waadzi, for one he paid 50 bucks for his. where can i get that deal? not my junker also all the fab work adds up and i estimate that at the end of the day youll spend 2k easy if you dont have access to a welder. thats why ill stick to ls swaps and cheap D or the f22 with 4g63 stroker :P
also dumping your clutch at 5k is NOT good for your diff, if you want to spin tires do it at 8k the tires WILL spin with less of a shock, TRUST me on this people think they are doing ok because they are only doing it at 3-6k rpm but you actually get traction at that point and your diff, bank account, self esteem will all hate you
-
That's a good point about the 8k dump
Have a lead on an ap1 diff with richmond 4.56 for 150 shipped
3 teeth came off the ring gear though :/
I might be able to pice 1 good diff out of the two.
It's really not that expensive if you shop around but yeah it's getting old I might sell it and keep the crx
-
its such a sick car i miss it but its not cheap to mod and thats considering the engine needs absolutely nothing done to it lol you can get an LS swap for what you pay for a differential for the S and go just as fast(boosted) since the S is still 800-900lbs heavier idk it just turned me off its weird
-
I think once the rear is taken care of there really isn't anything to worry about.
I'll examine the damage on my diff and see if I can make the two busted ones into a good diff for a cheap replacement and I'll stay out of the sideways territory until I get the 8.8 setup ready. After that I figure it's a fun dd that can take the abuse and if the f20 let's go ever there is a k24/k20 swap kit that let's you use the stock manifold.
I hope every day I drive the car someone hits me in the passenger side so I can buy it From the insurance for dirt and I can throw an LS setup into it
-
i would never change the actual engine the f20c/f22c are badass stout fucking engines, i sold my friend an f22c that i had and hes doing f2k in an ek cant wait for him to finish it ... but thats a $$$$$$$$ swap
-
Yeah, I think if you get the 8.8 you won't really have anything else to worry about. If they can handle much more power than the F20/22 will see in a much heavier car...
I just don't do clutch drops. When it shatters I'll probably go with an 8.8 as well and never have to worry about it again.
-
I said I wouldnt do clutch dumps
then I got the car :P lol
-
I hav an m3, I just don't do stuff like that with it. I don't understand what makes you want to do it
-

moar power = less broken diffs.

If the tires are spinning, your not gona break diffs. Its when You get traction that your gona have problems. Just ask bdvt. Why doyou thing that hes broken more trannys than a jail house pimp?

I dont understand how you dont want to rip the car sideways from time to time its just fun and expensive

this is true time to save up for some boost! :noel:
in other news found an ap2 (04+) rear diff for 300 bucks its a lot better design then the ap1
DIFFERENTIAL
• Redesigned differential; it has been beefed up.
• By moving to an FCD material (from FC), the case rigidity was improved by 40% while the overall case strength was increased 20%.
• Gear fatigue resistance improved by 5% through a change in the shot peening method for the drive pinion gear.
thinking about swapping the bolts out that hold the caps with ARP hardware for less stretch
-
"It's expensive" is the primary reason I don't get it sideways except on special occasions :P
I didn't know the AP2 diff was any different than AP1. LE1601 is good lube, although it won't really help you from shattering it.

It's phusicly different too larger internal parts like the caps
Picked it up for 250 with mounts and all the brackets I figure I'll get 100 off the brackets and mounts off the fags from s2ki that pay out the ass for stuff and I can sell the blown diff for 150 to someone who needs a core to send to pudduydad or CT for an upgrade.
150 for an upgrade
-
At this point do you think getting your replacement ring and pinion cryo treated would be worth it?

Why can't Honda just use a bit more material? 5-10lb spent on widening teeth and enlarging caps would go a long fucking way.

i had the 300zx na lsd diff in my car 200$ all day just the mounting and axles are high dollar haha from inlinepro and then fullblown in minneapolis has the kit out for the 8.8 ford. but the shit is nice, basically trouble free way to go.
i was at 500 and never had problems just the trans would shit the bed. went through one and put an ap2 in it and sold it and it wasnt the cars 1st transmission either.. haha
-
IDK about the Fullblown setup. Have you seen their fab work? Atrocious. :noel:
-
I have seen some stuff seemed okay but I dont know how it holds up don't follow real close on all that anymore.
-
I was trying to be funny. You know slappynuts is their fab guy, right?
-
Ya forgot about that! Too much shifty beer.
