Title: need computer help formating
Post by: patsmx5 on October 24, 2011, 10:57:45 PM
Long story short I lost my 1.5 yr old Sony laptop in a fire (an a ton of other shit) and now I'm trying to get my 5 yr old dell to work decent. it's got a bunch of crap on it. I have the legit windows xp code for this laptop. I just bought a new jump drive. I need a link of where I can download xp, so that I can format, plug in my jump drive, and install xp from it.

fuck your legit code

you will need bittorrent (www.bitttorent.com (http://www.bitttorent.com))

then go to piratebay.org

download windows xp via bit torrent. it will be in an ISO format.. which is a disk image

then use a program called universial usb installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/Universal-USB-Installer/Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.6.8.exe (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/Universal-USB-Installer/Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.6.8.exe))

select the windows xp iso
select windows xp
if you dont care about the shit on your flash drive select reformat flash drive

put it into the computer you want to reformat

either run it off the installer through windows

or if that doesnt work restart the computer with the flashdrive in it

keep pressing f12 till you get into the boot menu and select the usb flash drive

i suggest you download a program called driver magician from pirate bay first...

install it and run it then copy the drivers onto the flash drive after you install xp onto it

that way you have all your drivers

Software is great for bringing back data that hasn't been written over multiple times and was just recently deleted.

Software does not do a good job with damaged hardware.

If the drive isn't melted from the heat you can probably get some back, but if it is than you can forget about it.  Heat also demagnetizes shit, like hdd platters.  If the drive won't spin, you could find a clean-room, find a similar model, and swap the platters (be careful!).
