The screens, baleen, are pushed closed AFTER it's sucked in the food. It filters it on the way out. I'm pretty sure it would have spit a human out anyways. That's like one of you swallowing a flying parakeet when you were lunging for pop corn you tossed up.

That's why they make boats. You don't see bicycles on teh expressway for the same reason. That said I'm disappointed the people weren't swallowed whole and dragged to the bottom of the ocean.
