I've been struggling with some potential CV axle problems with the Miata. Currently have 5 axles in various conditions. Should the outer joint move freely, like floppy? or should it be kind of rigid?
-
When they are brand new, they are pretty stiff like a new balljoint. Usually when they are in good shape they will stay where you put them and not just droop. I have never had an axle give any problems as long as the boot is still good.

Look at a cutaway of one and you'll understand. They're 2 cups each with multiple half-grooves that inter-connect with large balls (bearings).
If it flops, it could still be good. It just has looser clearances and/or a soft boot. Any CV that has lots of radial play (can turn splines CCW or CW while shaft is fixed) is well past due.

I say you give me the contact information of the sack of shit who ripped you off in the first place and I'll make everything right.

Eh I got these off Ebay. If I could find some remans for $50 with core I'd be all over it. For some reason there's a shortage. :/
-
I think my bro gets them through work for $43. Then he asked me "Hey why does my car shutter at WOT?"
-
I *think* ive narrowed the feeling to the right side. Will try swapping that axle out (its floppy) with a more rigid one. Busy week

you have a 50/50 chance of being right

Half the time it works all the time.

Forgot to update this. I'm retarded and it was the wheel balance. I would guaranfuckingtee that anyone in the car would have thought it was something else :P
