While doing some research for a school paper I found this site and it was good for a laugh, so I felt like sharing.

You cannot prove 100% that god doesn't exist.
Just like we have not found a true missing link so while we can talk about evolution we cannot prove that humans evolved from apes or monkeys. there is no scientific data for that, however the bible does provide answers for some of this.
i dont know if i would say im a creationist but im not sure if i buy the whole dino thing, wheres the proof.

So carbon dating, which is based off of some pretty solid science, is just God's way of testing faith?
Come on.
You are correct, we cannot prove that God, whatever that means anyway, doesn't exist. The Christian idea of God is yet another example mankind's arrogance.

Carbon dating can vary widely and is not an exact science.

While there may not be hard proof there is evidence all around us. Think about creating life, we cannot do this without pieces of the man and woman. We cannot create life syntheticly without a human element.
God gives us a soul, we might be able to create an ear in a petri dish but we could not create anything with a life force all its own, it wont have a heartbeat or soul.

Have you ever spoken with a feral welfare mother, third generation crackhead, ginger, anyone white from SoCal, or a lower income <insert any race here> trash mentality? These "people" do not have souls, yet fit your description of living.
There is evidence all around us that there is no god.

You have given me no hard evidence.
and just because people make poor decisions and have little to no education does not in any way mean they do not have a soul. a lack of morals does not constitute a soul in a literal sense of the word.

The dude who scammed Tom meets this criteria, however i suspect he is in fact not god.
-
You talk of people having a soul but have not defined what it is. Yet another thing that cannot be proved or disproved by science. Do animals have souls? Do plants have souls? If not, why are we so special that we get one and nothing else does? If everything was created by God should every living thing not have one?
If the Earth is only 6000 years old, that would mean that it should only takes a few hundred years for fossils to become fossil fuel and not the millions of years that "scientists" claim it takes, no?

Again, arrogance.
Human life is the only life on this little planet right?
GTFO with that nonsense.
I will admit that I was unaware of the limitations of carbon dating, or forgot, but I certainly am not going to get my facts from a highly biased source with an agenda to push. When time and curiosity allows, I will certainly learn more about the subject, and take in inforamtion from many different sources.
While I will admit that just about anything is possible, we sure don't fully understand the world around us, I find it hard to believee the fables contained within one text.
Eyewitness accounts with no peer review are certainly the best way to make accurate observations, obviously. Maybe I am making ASSumptions when I say, "with no peer review."
This seems like trolling though.

It's funny because I had exactly the same discussion about god and religions today with a friend of mine at work.
He said the rules in the religions are what's keep people to no kill each other and that religions are needed.
I said that religions are for stupid people or people that can't live on their own.
He said that god exists, I said that it doesn't. He said that I had no proof it doesn't exist, I said he has no proof it exists.
The outcome was the same as the beginning. I continue to thing that religions are for stupid weak people and that god doesn't exists and he continue to think that religion is good and that god exists.
Talk about wasting your time on work time.

i dont know if i would say im a creationist but im not sure if i buy the whole dino thing, wheres the proof.
You're absolutely 100% correct. We cannot prove 100% that god doesn't exist. You, sir, need to read about Russell's teapot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell's_teapot). I could think up a million things that you cannot prove doesn't exist, but it won't make it any more likely to exist.
Why aren't you supporting any other gods? There are plenty of gods that nobody can prove don't exist, yet you choose to believe one particular one without any more bit of proof than others have for their gods. I'll tell you the answer -- indoctrination. You may notice, that people tend to believe in the god that is most believed in their geographical location, or worshiped by their family and peers.
Haven't found the missing link? There's actually an episode of Futurama (Season 6, Episode 9) mocking this whole situation, which of course doesn't classify as evidence, but it's a great illustration of how stupid that whole argument is. No matter how many "links" are found, the creationists are never pleased. Nobody seems to consider the ridiculous amount of "luck" required for a fossil to exist. It's rather fortunate we've been able to dig up what we have. Again, evidence supporting evolution (for more than just humans), yet absolutely none supporting god.
What I don't understand is how you're supporting the idea of a god (absolutely no proof) yet don't feel there's any proof for dinosaurs? Fucking bones and fossils. What more proof do you need whether they existed? Relevant and hilarious: Fundi Christians (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMB5L0VoszI#)

It has nothing to do with carbon dating the bones. Still, there is evidence supporting radiometric dating, and absolutely no evidence supporting god created life 9000-12000 years ago. None. To bring back evolution, there are plenty of "links" and to believe that those creatures evolved so drastically and so rapidly seems kind of stupid. To be blunt, I will put more clout in thousands/millions of scientists than I will in an angelfire-hosted and god-biased website.
Ignoring the fact that the idea we cannot synthetically create life is completely false (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703559004575256470152341984.html) (thanks Google). Complex biological processes do not prove god exists any more than they prove OCZC exists. Using something that we can't explain or recreate (although in the case of life, we can recreate and explain it) is never evidence of god. Don't forget humans used to believe the earth was flat, the center of the universe, the sun was a god, etc -- and a lot of that shit was believed around the time the stupid bible was written.
A soul? If a soul truly existed, neurological disorders would be nonexistent. A soul is this magical "thing" that just exists in side of you and was gifted by god. It shouldn't be effected by the physical realm, yet it is. In reality, your brain is just an immensely complex chemical reaction that we haven't completely figured out, but there is a lot of progress being made. Sorry, but you have no soul, you're "soul" is just the state of your brain and a product of your environment and experiences.
You have given me no hard evidence.
and just because people make poor decisions and have little to no education does not in any way mean they do not have a soul. a lack of morals does not constitute a soul in a literal sense of the word.
You haven't given any hard evidence.
You're right, poor decisions and no education is god being an asshole. He knows everything you will do, gave you your soul, created you with "a plan" (which completely fucking throws free will out the window), and yet he still put you in your miserable life, allowing you to make poor decisions, while he smiled down upon you. Obviously god just likes some people more than others.
Not entirely relevant to your discussion of morality, but one of my favorite quotes: "Morality is doing what is right regardless of what you are told; religion is doing what you are told regardless of what is right"
The argument of whether or not there is a bearded Caucasian white man who lives in the sky and helps me make touchdowns is not the point.
we are discussing creationism and dinosaurs, fact or fiction.
Fact: god holds the miracle of life, he does exist and you cannot prove dinosaurs lived 6 million years ago or whatever.
creationism = no evidence, at all
evolution = while not every link has been found, enough evidence has been found to paint a detailed picture
dinosaurs = fucking bones and fossils
God holds the miracle of life? If you haven't already, click the link above. We, humans, have created life. We are god?
"He does exist and you cannot prove dinosaurs lived 6 million years ago" WHAT THE FUCK? Seriously? Saying "he exists" without providing a single bit of proof is OK but it's not OK to believe estimates (however accurate) based on science?
Of course you have silly. anything you make you can thank god for. he created you and gave you the knowledge you have to build that manifold. so yeah everyone has heard of a sweet manifold god has created at some point!
I've always loved how [anything good] is thanks to god and [anything bad] is either "god working in mysterious ways" or the devil. God didn't give anyone any knowledge, the dude that build the manifold earned it all on his own. If god is the giver of knowledge, he should give us the knowledge to cure the countless fucking diseases that he created (or was it the devil? god's special plan?) and are killing millions.
97Econobox, I've always had respect and thought you were a cool guy, so this thread saddens me. I'm not trying to push my evil atheism on you, but I'd like you to open your mind a bit and dig a little deeper... Read up on why atheists believe what they do, and if you still believe in god then if he exists he can't say you aren't faithful. I of course live in one of the most religious backwater states in existence, so deal with christians all day, every day, and while they get treated with the same level of respect as anyone else -- I can't help but think of them as either very gullible or of a lower intellectual capacity.
I grew up in a christian family, had all christian friends, was very active in the church, blah blah blah. However, as I grew older, it was getting harder and harder to deal with the constant CANNOT DIVIDE BY 0 illogical inconsistent bullshit that is in the bible and "keep faith." The book was written at a time when humans were fucking STUPID, and it's hard to ignore how completely ridiculous the stories were. A man swallowed by a whale/fish? The world being flooded and some fuckhead gathering two of all of them (and I assume one of all the asexual life), providing their very picky habitats and diets? The world being created in 7 days, before there was even a such thing as a day????? The story of creation isn't even consistent in the bible if you compare the different books. If the bible was written today, the author(s) would be accused of blatant plagiarism: Religulous - The similarities between Horus and Jesus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx9WMbCljdo#noexternalembed) I like how christians pick and choose what to follow in the bible. Who the fuck decides what parts of "god's word" are right and which are wrong? The bits about owning slaves, not jerking off, stoning wives, etc etc -- OK not to follow. The parts about god existing, oh that's all true. How do you know that hell isn't a nice place and the devil isn't a good guy after all? Seems ridiculous to only hear one side of the story and make your judgment. The only reason this religion has lasted so long is because its claims were vague enough that it can't be disproven (yet). Others were even more ridiculous and science has been able to prove the bullshit. I love the people that say you should believe in god because WHAT IF YOU'RE WRONG?!?!1/11/1/1//// There are hundreds of gods, and I'm not going to waste my time worshipping all of them because they could possibly exist.
If you want to believe in a COMPLETE DOUCHEBAG, then go right ahead. A guy that created Adam and Eve, knowing that they would introduce sin (he is all-knowing!), purposefully sending his son down here knowing we would kill him, which in turn condemned all future generations to hell (I assume you support paying reparations to ancestors of slaves), then revived him anyway. A guy that created all life, including the parasites and diseases killing us every day. A guy that was keen on performing miracles back when the bible was written, but today decides it's not worth the effort. A guy that gives us all free will (which can't truly exist if he has a plan for all of us) to form our own opinions, then is happy with condemning people to hell for eternity for using LOGIC to believe something that actually has EVIDENCE to support it. If god wants us to believe he exists, why doesn't he just exist? A god that will send a mass-murderer to heaven if he just has faith, yet will condemn an entirely moral productive person to an eternity in hell for not believing. A guy that will condemn billions to hell simply for believing in a different god that has an equal amount of supporting evidence (aka none). He really sounds like a stand-up kind of guy!
-
Well that is a well laid out argument.
Lol.
-
I am by no means an intelligent person, I used to go to church and have a strong faith in organized religion. As I got older and began to form my own thoughts I came to realize that organized religion is a sham to control the weak minded and Tom Cruise is our 1 true god.
All Hail Maverick.
-
yes carbon dating is not accurate for time older than 60k years, not enough carbon isotope left, blah blah
However, there are numerous methods of dating, not going into everyone of them. ex. tree ring dating goes past the 6000 year range, to about 12k, yea thats the one where you count the rings and use over lap of ring characteristics between trees to get a timeline. But I guess that logic is just a weee bit too hard to understand for the bible belt
Still unsure of troll with that website, seems a little too involved though

god almighty just spoke to my soul and said that dinosaurs existed millions and millions of years ago.
LOL like I believe you. Put it in a book that also includes contradictions against your claim, and then we'll talk...
It's funny because I had exactly the same discussion about god and religions today with a friend of mine at work.
He said the rules in the religions are what's keep people to no kill each other and that religions are needed.
People like that are the reason I love the quote, "Morality is doing what is right regardless of what you are told; religion is doing what you are told regardless of what is right." It always gives me a chuckle when people assume you're an immoral, evil being simply for not believing in god. But then again, they're typically the type that cannot think for themselves and may truly need someone to tell them that killing someone is bad, m'kay?
Interesting compilation of information: http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/eghgd/why_there_is_no_god_quick_responses_to_some/ (http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/eghgd/why_there_is_no_god_quick_responses_to_some/)
For example:
Atheism is correlated with better science education, higher intelligence, lower poverty rates, higher literacy rates, higher average incomes, lower divorce rates, lower teen pregnancy rates, lower STD infection rates, lower crime rates and lower homicide rates.

That's what Hubbard did with Scientology.
Check out Selling God (http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Selling_God/70183458?trkid=4411775) on Netflix. I don't remember the specifics, but it compares religion to the basics of business: provide a need (if you want to go to heaven...), create a sense of urgency (he can come back any day), etc...
people are inherently gullible. anyone who professes to know where we came from is a fucking piece of shit. anybody who PROSELYTIZES should be strung up and left to twist in the motherfucking wind.
think that just about covers it.
I concur. To be fair, most people that don't believe in religion aren't usually foolish enough to claim they KNOW he doesn't exist. Most religious people KNOW god exists, because, well, they just know.
-
Jorsher, you are spot-on in a "real world" sense.
I myself was raised to believe in god, love god, love my family and neighbors.
I got older. I see the world for what it is and the logic in it, even the illogic of the quantum level.
I then see the formations of religion....
For instance Catholic: for control of the masses. This is a very solid opinion. I don't argue over opinions.
Which leads me to another point:
If you are raised and around people that are racist against (ethnic person) you stand a very reasonable chance that you yourself will be that way. This is how people are.
Now apply that to the simple and PROVEN TRUTH that the people living then were very very stupid. Lacking all but basic social, cultivating and math skills. Yet they all beyond a reasonable doubt believed in a creator.
What about Pluto... Do you still believe it to be a planet? How long did we hold onto that crazy ideal that a huge asteroid is a planet? Cause someone high up in that field said so. And it spread.
How many people still this day say "It's still a planet". More than I care to say.
Completely dismissing the possibility of god not exiting is retarded, and you are a fool if you are closed minded to such a wide spread subject.
I myself still believe in "God" as defined as a higher power or level of being, but I by far am not a actively overly religious person.
Being raised Mormon left me with this:
Treat others as you wish to be treated. I.E be nice
Love everyone as if they were family (ultimately superceeds the above line)
Love god, and be thankful for someone that once upon a time wished the world would change and people could get along.
I haven't gone to church for 12 years.
I worship no crosses or bs. I just live life, try to stay happy, and most of all,
Be sure what information I believe and trust. And the informations source is of a great deal of importance.
So is the quality of my marijuana and cigarettes.
-
For sure. I wouldn't claim that god doesn't exist, but I don't believe one does. This sums it up, from the reddit link above:
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones." — Anonymous and "We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes." - Gene Roddenberry
I'm a good damned person. An asshole at times, but I don't intentionally fuck people over, and if I ever do by accident -- I do what's possible to amend it. I don't need religion to have ethics.
I have a very religious coworker. He's going off to some theology school sometime in the near future and is already preaching to a congregation. One day, him and some others were discussing some news article about atheists and he said something that earned him massive respect from me. Something to the effect of, "atheists could be right, neither side is proven, I just choose to believe in god."
My stance is the exact same, just on the other side of the fence.

You forgot about God giving AIDS to kids in Africa...
If he "loves" us so much why would he allow hell to exist?.... there are more logical loopholes in Christianity than there are missing links in evolution.
That said, I think that religion is a great business plan! Make people fear the wrath of god and convince them to give up their money so they can feel safe, AWESOME!

Back in the day when some guys were coming up with all the religions that still exist today, science didnt exist in its great capacity like it does now. Writings and ideas created 2000+ years ago are formed for generally uneducated minds. Its different these days thanks to science gaining ground.
The Christian church was pissed that scientists claimed the earth revolved around the sun, not everything revoled around the earth. People were jailed and/or executed for saying that shit. Now look what happened ::)

Look up the argument of natural selection. If you can find a fault in the logic let me know. It's the basis for evolution.
And we didnt evolve from apes.. We are apes. We have evolved alongside the other apes and everything else in the universe. Everything in existence is equally evolved, some just have evolved differently or more dramatically over the years. Adaptation happens. Deal with it.

Look up the argument of natural selection. If you can find a fault in the logic let me know. It's the basis for evolution.
Faith and logic are mutually exclusive.

i have faith in natural selection :P

I wish the world would let natural selection run it's course a little more. Remove a few speed limits, remove a few handrails, stop painting curbs yellow, etc. the world has gotten stupid cause they have gotten used to other people thinking for them. "caution, hot coffee" no shit it's hot. If it was handed to me cold I would be pissed.

To be fair, mcdonald's iced coffee is fucking delicious. Especially the hazelnut one.

The problem with matter in general is that we have no way what so ever to know of any intrinsic properties of the matter. This is the problem with consciousness and "souls". You can assume that the brain is nothing more than a lot of different external chemical reactions, but to explain the experience of the aboutness of consciousness (something that exists internally within matter) you need something other than an outward physical description of the matter itself.

I don't get into girly flavored coffee, but I do like their regular iced coffee in the summer time.

Either way, there's nothing magic about it. We just are limited.

Give it time, science will figure it out.
