OK, it works fine in both my laptops but when I try to use it with my shitty old desktop, it just makes a beeping sound. Anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?
-
Are the jumpers set right?
-
I'm guessing this is a USB drive? Maybe not enough voltage from the port. My desktop has a problem connecting to certain things cause of low voltage. It will connect eventually, but it tries for 5-10min sometimes.

no jumpers on it. yes its a usb powered device. Is there a way to boost power going to the usb ports?
-
Try the usb ports on the back of the computer as the ones on the front may not be true usb 2.0. BTW there is something now call a geek section :P
-
I have an older one that won't work unless I plug it into a powered usb hub I have.
The ports on the comp don't have enough juice.
-
USB powered hard-drives suck in general. 2.5" drives suck slightly less.
Like said, back ports, as they're more likely to meet power requirements...
-
you can buy a Y shaped USB connector so you get double the powa

ok sounds like I need to buy something. I didn't think this was geek enough for the geek section. Ill have somethin to add add there soon enough.
