So I'm getting ready to put the exhaust on the teg. I ordered a cheap 3" eBay n1 setup that has a resonator and a 3" fan boi canister muffler that I absolutely hate the look of. So I also have a huge resonator that I'm gona weld in behind the resonator that's already on there. Now I need a 3" muffler that is quiet, but not gona kill my flow. Also looking to make 4-500whp through this so it has to flow well. What call nigger suggest? I have enough room back where the muffler sits to fit a 20" long muffler.
-
magnaflow round resenator and oval muffler has never failed me. The flow cannot be beat.
-
How loud is it though? Anything should be quieter than the 2.5 with no resonator and na, that's on there now.
-
3" turbo-back with 1 resonator ending before the axle is quieter than a stock civic exhaust w/fartcan. With a straight-through muffler you'll still get an annoying highway drone.
If you want QUIET, get a stock muffler from a higher-hp single muffler car. STI/WRX, supra, etc.

Folgers makes a great 6"...
-
Stock with a dump
-
Summit 3" turbo muffler. Doesn't flow all that great but it's quiet.
-
Vibrant flat black.
-
Stock, weld in a levered bypass, call it a day :noel:

Oval style can

You're overthinking this whole exhaust thing.
qft
i have had that exhaust on a DC, and im telling its fine out the box from china. i have the same one cut up and on my VR4, minus the N1, plus a Magnaflow. and its a little quiter. looks better forsure.
you arent gonna have much room for any resinator with the way that shit is setup. unless its part of the downpipe/cat area.

make sure its a good resonator in this spot otherwise it will quickly lose its function and be shooting red how chunks of fiberglass at the people behind you.
-
I haven't opened the box yet, but I'm gona cut the exhaust right b4 the bend in front of the gas tank and add it in between there and the back of the resonator that came with it. If I have to move the China resonator around I will. I just want it pretty quiet.
-
I have heard every type of muffler and exhaust (or lack of) on the hondas and the only ones I recommend are the vibrant flat black one and the magnaflow. I have magnaflow on my car and that is what we usually use on everything.
-
i use all magnaflow cat, glasspack resignator and muffler.

All that is usually too expensive for me. :noel:

Well I'm pretty sure that the resonator that I'm adding is a re branded magnaflow. It's a ss unit that is from a Injen 3" exhaust for a srt4. I snaged it from my bro in law a few years back. It's what I ran on the crx. But it was just that and 3" straight pups and it was fucking loud. I'm looking to quiet it down. So I hope what ever muffler I add helps.

3" turbo muffler are pretty quiet. i had one on my integra, cheap too like 30 bucks

Till that holset spools up and it opens up like a bag of popcorn. Not to mention the 1000rpm of spool you will lose

it really didn't have that much of an effect on my car.
you will always have more lag with any muffler on a turbo car, a chambered one will obviously be more. but you can't have a straight through muffler and have it be quiet

The exact reason Honda put a trunk release lever in the car :)
-
Yeah, pulling on a trunk release cable and driving one handed while my Holset is @ 30lbs in 4th gear in the hwy sounds like it deserves the Darwin award.
It's was sketchy enough tuning with Dave in the crx in 4th gear on some back hillbilly farm roads with way shorter gears.

$10 fuel stop cable from tractor supply

If I do end up doing a cut out, (which I probably won't) ill use a eBay 60mm wastegate and hook a boost controller up to it so I can set where it opens up. I know it will probably never fail due to heat or anything of that nature. If it does fail it will be because of cdmness

What if you were to build something that would just bypass the muffler and bleed off excess backpressure? mechanical and repeatable then it doesn't matter what muffler you use. I would think that even a 38-40mm WG would work in this case.
-
Well I've been thinking about doing something like that. I can get a 60mm wastegate for under $70. And I can't get any muffler that's worth a Damn for that price. So I'm thinking about going that route and doing something of that nature over the rear axle b4 the muffler.
-
you've heard my car. no cat. 3" summit res and a 3" magniflow nice and quiet
-
Fuck, I'm lucky if I even remember what I had for lunch. No I don't remember how loud your car was.
-
Vibrant flat black.
End this thread here. Best choice.

i just remember it was the most hardcore turbo setup there next to russes s/c

Flowmaster 40

I recall a muffler that has a pressure bypass in it, I can't remember the name tho.
EDIT: found it, Dynomax VT. $102 at summit for 3" in/out. Has a valve in it that opens with pressure, making it straight-through. I've noticed for turbo cars you'll want the "4.0l+" model to keep it from rattling/clanking.

might try one of those

I took ly chambered muffler off yesterday. Straight through FTW.
Added 50 hp and 1500rpm faster spool

those dynomax would be cool if they werent junk.
