Let me first off say I know nothing about turbos or turbo set ups.
anyways I want to know how much boost you can run on stock internals.
The engine specifications are (or will be)
307 5.0 stock bottom end (cast crank cast pistons cast rods.). 1.84 intake 1.50 exhaust with a 262 lift stock distributor (for now) performer rpm air gap and 600 cfm carburetor probably 9-9.5 to 1 comp
I know i included too much but w.e

You can't just give any engine a set boost limit. You gave us some engine spec's but did'nt tell us anything about what turbo your plan to use, You must know that 1lb of boost out a t25 is far different than 1lb of boost out of a 35R. Think a 600cfm carb is enough to support a boosted application?

I have no idea what turbo i want to use. I am not looking for much. Just a small turbo to add alittle power (50-75 horse)
and I have no idea? would i have to go bigger.
I figure i should start out small first so i dont blow anything up and once i learn more then i can go with a bigger turbo set up later on down the road.

Go big or go home!!!
But no realy, go with a single large turbo. 6 lbs and a Blow threw carb setup. call it a day
imo

307's suck
Why? My buddy in highschool had a 72 nova with a 307, and that fucker use to rip!!! He would rev that thing untill the valves would float. And he beat on it like spiker beats hit transmission!
-
307's suck
Mine won't ;D
sure it won't make as much power as a 350 would but I don't care.
-
Well he must have had some differant valve springs in there, cause i cant tell you how many times i saw that tac rap the needle past 6k :)
-
Why not just upgrade to a 350 and go from their? Have you actually researched on how cheap 350's are to build anymore? If you want to make power then through a couple extra bucks at it and do it right. It's wicked cheap anymore to make 350-400 horse out of a 350 motors. LOOK INTO IT

valve float is fun
the pontiac 455 i drove for a while never saw past 5700. but i could do a burn out in 4th gear so it made up for it

Dude 307 suck ass everythign you got will bolt to a 350 go find a truck block for like 50 bones, rebuilt it with some forged slugs/rods and then swap in. It wont cost you as much as you think but you will be glad you have the displacement and a fresh build on it. It will suck to bolt a turbo on that just to pop it in a week. why go through all th work just to do it over again soon teh right way. Do it one time, plus if you score another engine you can built it while still driving what you got.
-
lol yeah what d-rail said.
-
lol i just sent a 4 bolt main 350 block and heads to the scrap yard a few weeks ago because I was pissed at how full my garage was, you could've had it lol. too late.
-
I want to be different >:(
-
So do it and tell us how it works out for you then.
-
I want to be different >:(
Lol, by making power with a V8? I'm curious what color the sky is in your world.
-
I want to be different >:(
Then use 8 t25's
-
Being different is one thing. Perhaps you mean, you want to push the envolope, or you want to build a very efficient setup that can maximize power on stock internals. Or maybe you want to build a setup with a high HP/$$ ratio.
Pretty much any engine ever designed has a 15% safety factor built into the rotating/reciprocating assembly. 8lbs/ 40-50% increase in power with a SAFE tune and good management is possible on just about anything.
I still say do a 350 swap and start there.

Lol. I can see someone drilling 8 drain holes in their oil pan now. 8)
-
Kinda reminds me on my old hight school dream before I sold it.
63 falcon sprint body with a straight 6 200 on boost!!!
Old buddy of mine had a straight 6 baby nova on boost that ran 10.20's on the boost!
For your case. 350 on the boost will be well worth it. Or even better, boost that scrappy 307 'till it blows while you build a 350 on the side.
-
I want to be different >:(
Then try not asking a dumbass inane played out blanket question. Or try searching for you own answers?
No one does a 305 not cause no one wants to be different....................its cause its stupid...........

A 305 would be better than that POS 307.
There is a reason GM threw in the towel on the 307

If you must be different, swap in a s2k setup or drop a hemi in it. Nothing like bastard cars. adds to the WTF factor

Its not "stupid" if you arent looking to make 325+ hp on a stock block.
Ive done my research and 300 hp is very possible for very little money (about 1k 1200)
If i bought a 350 i would have to factor in all the stuff i would need to get to make the same power. sure it might be upgradeable and i could make more power out of it down the road but i just want something i can enjoy right now until i have the money to do it right.
In other words. I am going bbc after this lol.

I have seen quite a few live with 350HP. cut .010/.010: But the machinest knew how to roll a chamfer on the pins.

350 block + 305HO head, have fun
