Title: Rat Rod
Post by: dvst8r on April 25, 2012, 02:13:17 AM
Sorry don't have any build up pics, in fact I just snapped these tonight after doing some tuning. Other then the body shell this was 100% hand built in his garage over the last couple years. He just got it on the road about a month ago and we have been doing a little tuning. It is probably about 450hp /900ft-lbs right now and weighs about 3000lbs. On our quick little test run after putting injectors in tonight it made 60psi of boost (was still climbing fast) with a quick stab of the throttle, the head lights are pretty iffy, and it is scary enough when you can see. Runs a Jag IRS rear end, and a 94 cummins 5.9 12v, with a 47RH transmission.

That is as RHMT and rat rod as possible. Solid work. Can we get better engine pics? Maybe a ripper vid?

Nice  :noel:

They really let you drive with that thing on public roads? Did you have to pass inspection or something?

Looks like every other cummins 12v out there.  :P Yeah I will try to get some clearer engine pics this weekend.

Same with vids, we are supposed to do some early morning tuning on Saturday. So I will try to get a ripper vid then.

Yes, in fact commercial vehicle inspection officers, and real police so far just give you thumps up.

Yes it did have to pass an inspection, but because the body and "vin" are from a Ford (can't remember if it is a model A or T or what) it only needs to conform to those standards. At that time there were no turn signals or seat belts or... Basically if the brakes and steering are safe it is good to go.

It does have turn signals and seat belts (albeit just lap belts)

What else do you want to know?

Clearer pictures probably aren't going to happen, the only camera I own is my cell phone. I will take some ripper vids next time I am out in it.

Not a chance. It has only been complete enough to be on the road for about a week.

The ones in hotrod were far from ratrods. They were high dollar cars that just looked like junk.

I wan to do a modern take on a rate rod, using a newer chassis.  :noel:

My car at one time look like it had a bit rat to it. Now you have to open the hood to see a little.  :noel:

Oh my fuck...

Best part is, once the transmission gets built this winter, we will turn up the power till it will run with your accord on a hiway roll.  O0 The turbo setup on it should be good for ~750whp or so.

Kinda like the ratiness of the bfg's but that thing calls for some ET streets.

I think the diesel makes it that much more "rat". The only thing that screams junk (to the average joe) more than rusty panels is a stack of thick, black soot.

I was over there again tonight we were bumping the line pressure on the transmission, hoping to get it to live for the summer. I couldn't remember the year when I made the OP, but it is a 1927 coupe. Here are a couple more pics for people that asked for more. Didn't do any test drives tonight so no ripper vids yet.

I didn't realize it was compounds in the first pics, now seeing that makes it so much better! was wondering how it made 60# so easily...

Specs of turbo/injectors/ect?

T4 HX40 secondary, HT3B primary, 7x0.010 SDX sticks, Mack rack plug (just put it in haven't run it yet since) no plate, 4kgsk, and about 20 degrees of timing, on a 160 pump. The owner monkey'd around with the afc some as well, but it hasn't been modded or setup yet.

Here are a couple earlier pics when it was still under construction (forgot I had these) Shows the turbo's a little more clearly. The owner was throwing around the idea of building an a/w intercooler into that blower case, and using the pulley on the case to drive a water pump for the setup. Ultimately he decided it was already hard to see out of it, and with that big blower case right in his field of vision it was better left as it is now.

It has been pouring rain ever since. If it is clear on Saturday I will get some ripper vids. I leave for work Sunday morning, so if it is still raining Saturday, it won't be till after the May long when I return.

I am also hoping the weather breaks by Friday evening, as then I am going to try and get some 100psi+ rippers, before we hunker down on the dyno for the night. I will take a few dyno vids too, just not sure what I will be allowed to post up.

this thing just made me hate all "modern" vehicles.. almost.. i still want to finish my bmw but then i might have to shift my attention to some kind of fucked rat somthing with a diesel. any engine that can take that kind of fucking sounds like somthing i need to get into.

so is the tranny to a diesel truck too?  or did you guys hook somthing more car like up to it? im a city boy the only diesel trucks ive been in were yellow and took me to school.  but i did see some of the crazist turbo shit i ever seen in a guys garage an hour away i was buying some holsets, old guy races diesel trucks and i seen some elephant sized compounded shit in his trucks

Yes the engine and transmission were both out of a 94 or 95 2wd automatic dodge truck. It is running a 47RH transmission.

Just to clarify, the 100psi runs I alluded too aren't from this car, but another project I am working on.
