Title: Round 2 on this pile of shit, ripper, bike run and new Dyno results 6/5/12
Post by: Rx7toCivic on May 08, 2012, 03:32:35 AM
Figured my car is almost done so its time to post a thread.

here is my budget build

Bought this car from a rip off little car lot. I rear ended someone and long story short i got it back for free.

Was a cruiser for a while then got the urge to be able to merge on the freeway better. So i put a simple kit on it still retaining the ps and ac

Car made 180hp on 8 psi.

put it on e85 and raised the boost to 16psi... with 190k on it the motor spun every bearing in the motor.

so started the tear down

Picked up some eagles and some vitara pistons. A vato assembled the bottom end, block and girdle notched for the rods.

No just open.

Wanted to go with a t4 framed setup but this is what I could find for the money I wanted to spend.

Shit's proper all sorts of bad ass!

Questions:

What are you going to do for oil drainage?  Pump of sorts?

What caused your bearing failure?  Bolts let go?  Shitty neglected oil?   Oil pump having trouble getting it up?
Title: Re: Round 2 on this pile of shit
Post by: Rx7toCivic on May 10, 2012, 09:56:37 AM
Pump was old. Just good old lack of oil pressure.

The drain is fine, turbo is still above the top of the pan, it's about the angle of a handicap ramp.

All done for now. Need to clean out the bay, swap the 660's for 1000's when I grab a resistor box then make a dyno appointment.

A friend of mine that got his car dyno'ed at the same time i did the fail-boat, has a similar set-up. he has Z6 with eagles and wisecos, everything else being stock, with a he351cw on a log made over 400 at 21lb? on pump gas. you should be able to hit the bottom side of your goal easily, and I'm betting your set up with the manifold and front face will be far more efficient than his.

Yea I think it shouldn't be too hard. Just will take more than 21 psi. Retarded low compression with the vitaras and the z6 head.

What fuel? if you run e85 or race fuel it shouldn't be hard to at all.... just keep cranking the boost! :)

I agree with more psi.  Stupid low compression means moar knock resistance. Rock the anti lag and gives no fucks.

Sweet up-pipe.

Was worried about spinning bearings in the same way you did.  Oil pump not being up to par.   Haven't heard any ill effects about shimming the pressure relief valve.  Might do that to mine on top of a swing door pan.   Every little bit helps.

Is a non shimmed D oil pump sub-par and need shimmed for performance application?

Not so much as port as it is to radius the corners.

It's called wheel spin, are you one of those guys that shifts when the tires break loose then bog the next gear? Or don't know what it's like?

I'm more the kind of guy that have good tires and is gradual on the power I put on the wheel so I move forward and not standstill.

took it to 7800 and the power just flattened out. from 6500-rev limiter the power was flat, torque fell off after 6500. i didnt even grab a print out i was pissed about the intercooler bs. lol

Found the issue.... Shitty fabrication on the intercooler.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsphotos.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-snc7%2F480546_389571787747067_100000827486826_1030659_364161013_n.jpg&hash=01a2bb0514673fbf78edd63d9c6d1822d8d4ebd9)

How the hell can you do fab work and do something this fucking dumb. Making a mounting point on the intercooler but drilling through the end tank and relying on the bolt to seal it. Didn't notice cause we made our own brackets. Only part boost junkyz didn't make and I regret it.

In retrospect 367 isnt too shabby with that huge leak

If you can't get it to hook below 90mph somethings up. When was the last time you got an alignment? Idk, maybe its the added weight of my fat ass in my car, but my car will spin in the top of second and just quickly when I hammer it into 3rd from 2nd, but from then on out this bitch gets down! Good tires and a alignment do wonders.
