Damned fucker I got the 18g from did a shitty job trying to add a T3 flange to this turbo.
Did it up DGAF RHMT style. If it cracks, I'll just get a new hot side.
Turbo repair RHMT style (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuExtFFSh2M#ws)
Pics when it's cleaned up.
Hopefully California pigs don't know it's not CARB legal and let me get away with it.

looks like win for me ;DDD
so many times iam thinking about doing this on a subbi Td05....

I don't get what the fuck you were doing there. Why wouldn't you just weld it with stainless rod?
They tried using a shitty wire feed that didn't adhere to the cast well at all. A good tap with a hammer popped the flange off.
Why waste $$$ on stainless rod when you have all that flange material you can work into the weld. Plus ideally you wouldn't use stainless rod on cast; they will cool exponentially different amounts and cause cracks as I got a few myself because the flange is stainless, need to touch it up before assembly. This time I'll torch the housing red hot before welding to avoid further cracking.

I quite like 309 for welding cast. :P
-
Ive welded cast a few times. Just heat that bitch up supper hot and then set the welder to nog and let her rip!

now to make a downpipe....
I have a 3" V-band adaptor.... but alas... I want to keep my A/C as I have it now. So.... Maybe the OEM greddy elbow should clear =) Just make a downpipe, swap out for the greddy oil line (unless I get lazy), and presto; up from a TD04H-13C peewee to a TD05H-18G =)
then I REALLY will need a FMIC..... no beating around that bush.

Looks good. I would rock it!
-
damn man how'd u keep that from cracking wow good job
the only time i put a tig to cast it cracked the second i took the torch away. lol
-
I'm curious, if MIG welding in this situation, would regular steel wire or 308/308L work better? And I'd guess pure argon would be best for the 308? This is the only stuff I have on hand.
-
I know it will work, but I have the stuff so I was just curious if it would hold better.
-
if u use oxy/acetaline... you use a coathanger for the best adhesion and cracking resistance... oldskool trick... very solid when welding cast like a crack or something.
Im liking my buddies tig so far... gonna mess with it some more and try and get some aluminum work done for myself.

I've welded turbine housings with mild steel wire on a mig before. It doesnt work too bad. Just crank the heat and get it burned real good.
I also have done it, but I heated the cast iron up real fucking hot with a torch first, and set the mig to nog and let her rip!
