what up fellas. ive got a built ls head and a bone stock gsr head. im in the process of building up my ls block. im trying to get 450 whp on pump gas. if i go the ls vtec route i plan on changing springs and retainers( keeping gsr cams) ,and changing intake mani and throttlebody. my ls head has everything done already except port n polish (full crower valvetrain) blox i.m., t.b. etc. . which head will get me my 450 whp and benefit me more for street and strip. i have everything to go either route.

GSR head- good idle and good MPG
LS- shitty MPG and not the best idle if you get bigger cams, bolth will get you 450hp

The LS valvetrain will cost more than a stock vtec setup, and you'll still have a crappy manifold. You'll also get worse low-end/idle and MPG as stated above, in addition to the rockers/nuts that like to jump ship at high-rpm. To add insult to injury, ITR cams can be found for under $200 used on craigslist.
The only good thing about the LS - if you drop a valve or free a rod/piston, your entire head only looses 10% of its value. With a stock vtec head, 75% of it's cost is the head casting itself.
In the end, the LS is good for a cheap build, while the dohc vtec head lets to go farther with less effort and cash once you get into headwork. I won't argue the LS had potential, IIRC Bugermas tuned simple LS build to 500whp on eCtune.

I got a bad ass ported ls head with 1mm oversized valves in the intake and exhaust. Full valvetrain. Arp headstuds skunk 2 intake mani and aem cam gears. Lemme know if u would like any of the above. Letting this stuff go cheap cuz I went back d series.
