Working on this Kia sorento, and one of the screws on the induction control valve came off and is embeaded in the cylinder head. Wasnt sure if anyone had any tricks to get shit out. I've tried pulling the plug and reving the shit out of it. I cant see shit with the bore scope but I know its in there. Wasnt sure if I filled the cylinder full of some fluid and maybe that would help loosen it?
-
Loosen it from what?
Magnet?
-
if its embedded in the head that means the piston hit it and hit it hard, are you sure the piston is not damaged? just pull the head
-
+1 on pulling the head. That's probably the only way you're going to get it out.
-
nah, I've gotten them out before, its a pretty common problem on these cars, sometimes its screws, sometimes its bushings. It runs flawless, leak down and compresson are also good, so If I can just get it out I will save a shit ton on labor.

Id try ATF overnight. Couldnt hurt anything. Or maybe some kind of penetrating oil. As long as you change the oil afterwards, you can throw whatever you want in there.
-
yea, I was thinking along those lines.. maybe even crank it over when the cylinder is full.
and if it was like a honda and the head comes off in 15 mins I would do it.. There is alot of shit on these motors.
Most people in our shop just pull the engine when this happens.
-
Couldnt you get a coat hanger bend it at a 45° angle and go in through the spark plug hole and see if you cant scrape it off the head?
or blast that shit with as much compressed air as you can?
just a thought.
-
I'm assuming you can see it with teh scope through the sparkplug hole? I say get something in there and bang it out, like a long ass bent screwdriver. If u want dip it in plastic, so its not so sharp.
-
small bendable magnet that fits through the spark plug hole.
Had a compression tester lose one of the metal balls from the fitting before. Magnet worked perfect

O0Treat it like a PDI and top it out on the lift.

Haha, I got that fucker out, took the plug out, topped out 3rd gear with the spark plug out, let it hang on rev limiter for like 30 seconds. Alot of people were giving me funny looks, it was very loud, plus the hood was off. Very everett white trash.
came back, threw the plug back in, nice and quiet.
:)
I'm gonna flag 12.0 hours for this

Nice solid work

When in doubt rev it out :somb: :noel:
-
Italian tune-up is teh win!
-
Damn solid work fixing that hunk of shit.
-
Thats how I handle shit in the combustion chamber, pull the plug rev the fuck out of it and pray it comes out.
-
fuck I would think that it would fuck up the piston/head something fierce
Good job on the flat rate RHMT styles
-
It does, but you'd never know

When you're at the bottom (Kia motor), there's only one way to go. :P
