Title: Fish knowhow needed. Beta Disease inside **DEAD** RIP FERNANDO AINSELY
Post by: Urban Indian on April 20, 2009, 08:51:06 PM
So rachels fish suddenly got all sick. His name is Fernando Ainsley.

Cant figure out what it is and a mixture of the salt/betta basics isnt seeming to cure it.

I am thinking fungal infection?

Scales are raised on the head - like dropsey except that dropsey is on the whole body, this is only on his head. He looks like his scales are rotting off on his head.

pics. Any ideas? Pics 4 teh winner

Have you asked your local hole in the wall pet store?  Seems like the chain stores hire retards 90% of the time and can get you more messed up.

I've gone through a bunch of those little fuckers, they seam to only last so long. I put a small filter in with this guy and it really helps the water stay clean. Maybe this one will last longer. I really think hes on his way out, sorry.

that's fucking ich (Ichthyophthirius multifilis) (for you non english speaking folks, it's pronounced "ick")

go to a pet store and get ich treatment. they SHOULD know what it is, it's quite common in freshwater fish that have high stress and a poor diet.

If fish meds worked for Sewell, you should try people meds on your sister's fish.  Give it two Tylenol and have Rachel call me in the morning.

zing!

Beta fish do not mind dirty water at all. Judging by your tank seems like your GF put something in it that bothered the fish. Anything placed in the tank recently?

Go to your local pet store and look for specific food or drops that can be put in the tank that is, "fish medicine," its by the fish food or atleast at my pet store they got it.

Also those fish blow, buy another and let it tear this weak useless one apart.

They were used in the begining to place bets on and watch fight to the death, and I think still are in there native area.

John is right its Ick.  Medication will help if its kidneys havent shut down yet. If they have then he has very little chance.  Get some Ick medication asap. The medicated food is good for bacterial infections, but Ick is an external parasite.
Raise the temp of the water to 85 degrees F if he's in a tank larger than 5 gallons, ick can only survive in lower, room temps.  If he's in a bowl or something, dont raise the temp you'll boil him to death. Also, Aquarisol works great if you can find it.

I thought ick was little white spots from being stressed.

if it is ick, go get a lemon and squeeze the juice into the tank. then do a water change in about 24hrs.

Nothing new has been put in there since we owned the thing, a week before it was making itself a mad crazy bubble nest to put the female eggs and then it got this shit. That is after a 24hr full water change. added aquarium salt and betta basic to the tank.

I'll see how much the Ick medicine is, if its more than $10 I am buying a new fucking fish.

And I thought about letting the winner decide who won except that what if the winning fish catches the disease?

doesn't look like ick i've ever seen.

The bloating is from fluid buildup under the scales, and is a symptom not the problem.  Hince the dropsy-like swollen head.  The parasites are affecting its ability to process its bodily fluids. Probably has alot more to do with its enviroment than anything.

who cares what color, go get that thing a real tank with filter and other shit you need when you have a fish.
just cause they can live in a 1gallon cup doesn't mean they like it.

+1

yaya

But whats wrong with his environment? thetank is like 14" high has a seashell, big pebbles, little pebbles and a plastic plant.

He was fucking loving it and had MAD fucking bubble nest(which means that he is happy, healthy and secure with his environment.)

HOW do I make it so he doesnt die next time? You say change the environment but how? He was happy with it before this fiasco. I wasnt adding salt like it told me to because the petstore retard didnt let me know.

You only add salt when you replace water, not when topping off.  If the fool at your store had you keep adding, the salenity could have been too high.  BTW, You need to clean everything before you start over with a new fish.
