I just paid off my debt 3 days ago, cut the biggest check of my life and paid off my school loans from the community college. Now to decide if I should go on to a 4 year institution and get some useless degree, or get another cheap useless degree from the local comm college again.. hmm  :noel: associates in plumbing and heating? thats news one to me. I knew they had vocational schools for this kind of shit...

IDK, not to be a debbie downer, but seems kinda... senseless? just go work for a plumbing business for 2 years and dont waste your money, imo. I think in that line of work they're gonna look more at actual experience than school shit. Taking a class or two can't hurt though I guess

Go vocational for most trade work, much cheaper, the paper really does not help in most hands on fields

have you seen if they will hire you without the degree?  Or if they would pay more for you having the degree?  No offense but I would imagine you would start out on the bottom rung no matter what and have to prove yourself either way.  How much is this school going to cost you?  More power to you for finding something you want to do though, i think thats the tough part.

I'm at 25k$ of dept  :o

Growing exponentialy since I moved 2 years ago. I have more payment and less cash  :-\

If I can get a job like my girlfriend at 50k out of school and 75k$ in 5 years I will be happy even if I have some dept.

I have a car to turbo'ed too, we have to choose our priorities

+1

My first job out of high school was making $14/hr, and we were paid less than the other local companies were paying their employees.  If I paid a bunch of money to go to school and got a degree and could only get jobs paying in the $14/hr range I would be fucking livid.

In allegheny county you need to have a degree to do any plumbing work. I dont know jack about plumbing, there arent any schools for what I do/did. I miss my job. Anyone here have their CDL? I may be getting my Class A here soon, On my own though I wouldnt pay to take classes thats for sure. ::)

they will hire w/o one but will want u to attend school if you do not  have prior education ..so either way they expect some type of education ... acording to my uncle who is in plumbing people comming in w/ a degree are makin 5-10 more then what he make's and hes been the for years w/ no education or gas license ...( gas license i can recieve at the end of my education)
the cost w/o my grants and student loans was orriginally $18,800 for this year and my secound year will be around $22,000 -$24,000...the secound year is more because the gas course is 4 months extra ... but thats where the big money is ( from my understandin)

IMO i wouldnt waste my money on school for a trade, i got into the electrical trade making 8$ an hour and in two years i doubled my salary, 4 years later and im making 21/ hour.

ive seen a couple guys we hired that came from perry tech/trade school and they dont know a damn thing when it comes to field work

as much as im not a fan of unions, you get hands on work and you have classes as night. Your get paid a shit load too when you start out, you just gotta stick with it.

Ryan89crx is a pipefitter apprentice and he started out at like 18 or 19 and hour(package was like 35 and hour) and i dont know what he is making now but its a shit load.  tough work tho, long hours and 3 or 4 nights a week of school

depends what field you get inot, for me loans work out great

total price of schooling = 30,000

after two years im making 65,000/yr so its not bad

right now im doing laundry in a nursing home making 14/hr and not liking it

IDK if you work for someone with that degree not sure you will be making a lot, but if you do some private side work along with it cant be too bad of pay

itt: stupid fucks going to "college" to make less than hot dog vendors....
if you are not a full time student and make less than 20$ an hour, then you need to figure your shit out... I cant even see how adults could be satisfied living like that... I mean for the few of you who dont live with your parents, fucking rent alone should kill more than half of what you make  :-X

fuck man 20/hr here in western PA is considered pretty damn good, you guys have to take in to account the cost of living where your at. I'm a union industrial mechanic, and I have alot of freinds that are in coal mines or other unions and the most I've heard of someone making around here in a union is 33/hr. Maybe its just because were a bunch of backwoods motherfuckers?

Don't be too worried about the debt. Student loan debt is the best kind to have.

How much debt can you faggots have from community college?  CC with books is like $2000-3000 a semester.  If you can manage $12000 worth of debt after graduating, then you should slit your wrists.  $12000 is 10% of what the average student has in loans after graduating.  Granted that is assumed over 4 years so, fuck, you have 1/5 of the debt the average college student has after graduating.

student loan dept is the worst dept if its federal because you HAVE to pay it or you'll be in jail.

bankruptcy won't help you there, plus the govt will send jack boots with guns to your house to get the money

I "know" illegals that get paid $16/hr as painters. If you've got what it takes, a degree means shit to the boss you're making money for.

Lol I went to a four year college, got my business degree and a shit load of debt to go along with it. After about a year of working in the "business" field I got amazingly bored. I now took a job that has nothing to do with my degree, one thats completely math and science based.. A job that I have to take 6 months of paid classes to do. wtf. what a waste of 4 years.

That's pretty much why i've taken the last decade off school. I was not about to go and do something I'll end up hating. Took long enough to decide on finance, but I enjoy it and should be making 6 figures pretty quick after school.

I  have my 4 year degree in biology, but it's worth nothing as far as good paying jobs go. I made about 17/hr during college as a respiratory therapist, which I was trained to do in 9 months by the army reserves. I know people who graduated with me and went to work for 10-11/hr in various labs. The whole time I was in I had planed for more school, but all the same it's kind of crappy when you already make way more with 9 months of training then you can for 4 years of school. No debt for me but I signed alot of time to the army for that. Alot of these tech schools are rip offs, try your local CC, they may have the same training for much less, that way you won't be a slave to the creditors.
