what tittle says, do u can use stainless steel rods for make a mild steel exhaust system?
-
Depends on the SS rod.
-
it's 304 if that's what you means.. :-\
-
If it was 309 I would say go for it, with 304 you MAY have cracking issues. Regardless it is probably cheaper just to pickup some mild steel rod.
-
I'd just buy some er-70s2.
Whats with your English (or lack there of)?

it depends. for the most part, assuming its not going to be a structural, or safety issue if it fails.
yes - you can use alot of them. some welding tests ive taken are done with MS base metal, welded with 309 filler. in some cases it will qualify you to weld both materials. as a general practice, i would tell you to just get some ER 70 or 80 S-2 or S-6.
ive been keeping er80s-6 around lately. over-kill for MS and tits for moly.

thx! btw, another problem im having "sometimes" weling with ss rods and ss tubing is , i clen it and sometimes i get a bit "dirty material" when im welding, i means if could be ss rods that arent 100% ss or something like that, im sorry for my engilsh, it's improving still :-\

How's your gas flow and after flow? Also, have a brush for each different metal (Stainless, mild steel, aluminum, etc.). it may be a minute difference sometimes, but it can save alot of heartache when your trying to get stuff nice. Some even go so far as to have a different hammer for each alloy (Jaguar repairs).
We understand you Walter.

im using after i know u use cfh, 7-8lpm i think it's like 18-19cfh, of course i even try after brush everything, clean all with alcohol. whta i wanna get is clean welding stuff but looks like rods contain , "dirty material" not sure in this..
btw, what ss should i use for weld Mild steel pipe with Stainless steel muffler.
thx buddy :D

what u means?

overheated, poor gas coverage (just because the regulator says it's regulating corrrectly doesn't mean its all making it to the weld!), poor metal quality, poor gas dirty metal.
remember, one stainless brush for steels, one for iron, one of aluminum, one for magnesium, etc
if its an aftermarket muffler it's likely a low quality 304, and you can weld it with afew things er309 working the best.
if it's an OEM muffler/exhaust its more likely to be super low quality 409 than it is even a low quality 300 series. if that's the case you use er409 or er409Cb to weld it.
if it has any discernable magnetic field when you slap a strong magnet on it - it's likely 409.

You are using Argon right?

of course.

Just making sure, My boss man tried to tig with CO2 before, lol
Then he proceeded to MIG weld an aluminum plate into his steel car. Looked like complete ass but he could stand his 240 pound ass on it without it seperating.
