Yesterday my car felt really down on power then back fired 3 or 4 times and died. It won't start for more than a second or two and backfires loudly as it turns over. Did my timing belt skip a few teeth? Anyone have any other advice?
-
well... check the mech. timing
-
when my crx did that it was the ignitor in the dizzy. i had a spare laying around and threw it in and it fixed it. but if you think the timing belt jumped then check it man its really simple. its probably easier to check it then to make a thread asking if thats the problem

t belts on D';s dont skip they snap
Id say dizzy
-
I've had timing belts skip on d's

Check your mech. timing. Why are you asking us? Your the one who can see the car. If its in time, move on to the next logical thing and check that. If you cant figure it out, then post here.

The timing belt is off by one tooth, could that do it?
I also have a spare dizzy to throw on. Thanks.
-
Don't think 1 tooth would do it, just wouldn't run as well as it should, at least based on my one-tooth-off experiences.
-
i would throw on that spare dizzy and see whats up it sounds like an ingintion failure to me

Fix what you can see first. The t-belt didnt just skip for no reason. Either you belt is worn and lost tension or you have something else going on. If it skipped a tooth now, it will do it again unless you fix it. Next time you might be replacing valves.
Fix your timing belt, then if its still running shitty move to the dizzy/coil/ignitor.
Also remember that your ignition AND injection timing is based off the cam. So if your mech. timing is wrong the other two are as well.

satick your dick in the plug wire and have a friend crank it.
If it doesnt hurt its the dizzy

Car runs now. It was some combination of the cam timing being off, a bad ignitor and the screw that holds the rotor mysteriously vanished and let the dizzy accelerate out from under the rotor. thanks everyone.

I was gonna say rotor screw....but you got it running
