My new espresso setup.  I don't know if any of you are fiends like myself but I fucking love espresso.  I'm an engineer for a company that builds industrial turbocharged gas engines.  The product is pretty cool and our flagship model is 285L of displacement and almost 30,000 ft-lbs of torque.  Since I work on engines all day I haven't had the desire to work on cars much and my hobbies have been changing.

Grinder is a Mazzer Major and the espresso machine is an Izzo Alex Duetto II.

Yep.  That's actually my next upgrade.  This one only has 1g accuracy and i really should have something to 0.1g.

18g of coffee into the grinder then grind.  Dose into the portafilter and tamp to 30 lbs.  Then into the machine for 5 seconds of preinfusion and about 25 seconds of extraction at 200 F and 9 bar.

The steam boiler is kept at 255 F which is about 1.3 bar and is used to steam milk for cappuccinos or lattes.

It's actually a pretty solid machine weighing in at 88 lbs.  Both boilers are solid copper, the grouphead is chrome plated cast bronze, all stainless chassis, and PID control for both independent boilers.  For the Bisi reference, they don't need to inflate any numbers to impress uninformed consumers. Harbor Freight actually has some decent scales. I have 5 that are dead-on with each other for any sample weight of .1-500g I try. They're under $10 on sale.

Your local head shop will also likely have some decently accurate digital scales.

Scale tolerances are usually like clocks and exceed re resolution of the gage. I dont think it fuckin matters for coffee. I'd go with your eyeball gages.

And how much did you pay for this overpriced piece? EDIT: ok, I just looked and found it for $2250.00. ANd the grinder I found for sale is about $1000.00
All that money and you could have spent half as much and got 100x the machines. But it would'nt be chrome.... What kinda water filtration system are you using for that thing?

You could say I have a little knowledgeably in the coffee market......
