Post by: denmah on December 05, 2012, 09:41:13 AM
Hello everyone, i was told by 79fairmont, to join this site and show you my shit show builds, as this site might like them hahaha

I mostly do stupid things with cars, nitrous, and building turbo kits, and swapping LSX motors in cars and doing burnouts and occasionally drag racing.

if you browse, theturboforums, ls1tech, yellowbullet, and some other car related sites you might be familiar with my work lol.

ill summarize quick.
82 ford fairmont approx 700whp
5.3 tubo lsx - 9.95 @ 141mph - full street trim, bench seats, on a drag radial, driven to the track.

Great enough first post where I don't think we need nekked ladies posted. However I wouldn't mind pics of the lady in pic #3... :D

If you ever want to test out some big Bosch fuel injectors (800cc LS1 length or 900cc in LS1 & LS2 lengths), let me know. I have a couple dozen sets I've been matching into sets, but I don't know anyone with v8 builds.

Edit: I forgot about LSx 4bar fuel pressures, they'd be 900cc and 1000cc at those pressures. Add another 11% to compare them to Injector Dynamic's inflated numbers.

pet peve of mine...

its a Fairmont... there is no mounting lol.

anyway its been fine, too much timing in it seems to break the lower ringlands around 700whp haha.
debating leaving it alone where it is, or trying heads and a intake... they are too much money though, ide rather sell this one and build another car.

its been running great, but its been super rainy out where i live near allentown PA and i cant even get over 20% throttle in the car and that is no fun.

so instead ive been working on more megasquirt stuff for a local buisness.

So from your experience out of the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, etc. What's the best bang for the buck boost wise? I got a 66 Chevy II that's just calling for a boosted lsx.

4.8
usually the cheapest, people want nothing to do with it, and you can swing the shit out of them since they are short stroke.

we have done over 600whp (4l80e) with them and a friend of mine makes 700whp through an auto (200r4).
Title: Re: joined today!

i really want to do a 4.8 with LS1 bore and twist the fuck out of it... the issue im having is rods... you run stock ones though right??

I don't think the rods or rod bolts are the weak point in the 4.8.
http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_1109_stock_gm_ls_engine_big_bang_theory/ (http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_1109_stock_gm_ls_engine_big_bang_theory/)
but if you go hanging heavier pistons on the end of them you might be right...

Denmah, welcome.  You are a badass.  I love the dirty cheap go fast builds.

I am very familiar with that article, it seems a bit bisi like, but bad ass none the less...

im going to put piston/rods in a motor if i am going to take the time to do it though, but options for rods arent there, unless i run standard rods and custom pistons...

Ill prolly just run a stock 4.8 or 5.3, whatever i get cheap...

I liked that article, made me rethink why stock Honda ringlands crack so easily.

They were testing the bottom end's potential, so of course they'd buy some good stuff. Considering they used ching-chong turbos, they can't be that bad.

I was only on page 50 of your build so I did not get to where you are now lol. I really want to do some sort of LS vulgarity now.

I am now scouring my local pull a part for any L series engines with no luck so far. It seems the secret is out. I have however, found a lq4 out of a Silverado that has drive by wire throttle body for $400. Does that mean it is a Gen IV? Guy said it would need to be freshened up because it smoked. Wonder if I should bite the bullet?

Sorry for the questions. Never was I interested into domestics until now so I have some catching up to do.
Title: Re: joined today!
Post by: ratcityrex on December 12, 2012, 10:27:19 AM
I would get it for 400, wouldn't even second guess it. New rings, good hone and some gaskets. Ready to rock!
Title: Re: joined today!
Post by: denmah on December 12, 2012, 02:42:53 PM
you could even use the head gaskets again, 04-06 and up are gen4 internals, somewhere around 08 they started making them 58x gen4 crank also, and 4x cam gear.

there is always gaps in the years, because they trickle stuff to silverados, then to the vans, then the chassis trucks etc.

so something that was in the cars in like 04, eventually made it to the trucks in 06 ish if you know what i mean
