New to the site, its awesome and I'm already learning a lot on DIY stuff. I'm doing a not so unique build but i find it hard to find info on. I have an auto d16z6 civic 93 hatch that's auto. I want to do some bolt on and cam work, stage 2 and a tranny cooler and so forth. I am having trouble on how to go about modifying a throttle body linkage to a TB so it can fit my s2 intake manifold. Also I don't know what TB cable bracket to use as I see the z6 stock bracket sits too far back. I have only found this build ( http://www.streetsports.com/photo/vehicle/honda-acura/civicexauto/default.htm (http://www.streetsports.com/photo/vehicle/honda-acura/civicexauto/default.htm) ), but just pics no real info, and I would love to turbo it but again i want to make sure its done right. So if anyone can lead me in the proper direction I would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Id maybe try Google.com
Did you know that there is 13 in a bakers dozen?! WTF crazy i know
-
Done the Google thing in as many ways as I can think of. Thats how I finally came across that link. I usually find threads on how its not worth while or should not be done etc...I did find one eg9 on club civic being built that way and I had contacted the poster but never had a response nor did he finish the thread.
-
your probably going to need to make a custom bracket.
turboing an automatic will work fine. i know several here have done it with no issues. dont think any have made better than ok power. but they where boosted and ran...
-
If you get a converter cut for it, your car will be a nasty little drag racer.
-
by converter you mean a torque converter correct? I have seen from JMO and will be getting one from them unless anyone can recommend another reliable spot.
-
zex torque converters any good??? If you can even find them anymore?
-
You cannot turbo a civic.
-
First recommendation is to ditch the garbage honda ATF that's inside the trans. Z1 is basically a nothing special Dex-3 fluid that has a bunch of friction modifiers added to it. DW-1 is a bit better, but it is even closer to a dexron fluid.
I've been running the Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc ATF on the recommendation of several people on Bobistheoilguy. Less friction modifiers, higher flashpoint, and it costs $17 for a gallon of it, rather than $8 for a quart.
That and a trans cooler will take all of an hour and a half to do, and will go a long way to making your trans last longer and behave when you are inevitably beating on it.

Yea, Hondas aren't turbo'd from the factory. It will blow up at idle.

Yeah I will def do that, I'm also going to rebuild it with a race kit and a torque converter. I'm just getting all the info and parts up first then this summer start the project. One of the challenges is modifying a TB with a intake manifold into an auto.

If your biggest worry is how to make a throttle cable bracket, I wish you luck on trying to turbo your car.....

You misunderstand, its not the bracket its modifying the auto throttle linkage into a manual TB so that the sk2 intake mani I have will work. Sorry but certain things I can grasp quickly some I can't, without getting into that that's just how life is for me so I ask for help where I can. And I appreciate anyone who would take time to help.
Ps
I began that mod today, I think I have that down. So far thanks for all the good tips. It will be a good summer in 2013.
-
you car is MORE than fine with a stock intake manifold and throttle body. stop making your car more complicated. doesnt sound like its gonna run anyway, skipping that crap intake is gonna speed things up...

See what? I'm sorry I'm not that good at understanding msg board or text refs/short hand. Sorry if I am coming off in any wrong way.

Your most likely correct and I will keep the stock manifold. I guess its just better for me to learn first how stock parts react and such before starting other mods that may not yield any better results. And its okay if the car does not run after I attempt this, its project car and I don't really care how long it takes me to figure it out. Agin thanks for all the good and constructive advice, ill post up my progress or failures when I begin.

It doesn't meter what you do to the tranny, it won't hold up to the power that is possible out of the 100% stock engine. No sense in adding other things to make more power.

A serious question, how do automakers turbo automatics. What do they do to the tranny so that they hold up? I have a volvo xc70 automatic turbo and the tranny has held up no issues since 99. Any thoughts?
-
It's not auto transmissions in general, just Honda. All the fast American drag cars are running auto trannies.

lol...okay gotcha. lets see what i can accomplish before AAA hauls my ass off the hwy next summer.

Can you not drive a manual or are you just a troll?
-
I've tuned a few auto D-series turbo setups, 14bs/HF manifold combos. They're super fun and the last one I did hasn't blown up anything yet, been about a year now and it's a DD beater.
-
I really wish there was an auto solution for us. 1/4 mile times would drop a bunch if there was. I guess maybe the K/J people could use the GM fwd 200r4. I hear those are probably the strongest fwd auto.

Or the newer 4T80s used in Caddy, S/C Pontiacs :noel:

Last dude I talked to that wanted one only had one hand.
