Title: Evo 7/8 16g6 turbo on F22?
Post by: HiProfile on January 12, 2013, 09:07:47 PM
I've been thinking about another elephant turbo manifold when I get my F22 or H22 bullshit together. Since it will be a street car, I'm thinking one of these turbos will be perfect with the divided turbine working as intended. Plus they're cheap.

Should I presume the 10.5cm turbine housing would be better suited for the larger engines, or would the 9.5cm be better? This will be 300whp max with the stock pistons at 8.8-8.5:1 CR, so probably not 20+ psi.

a friend has an evo3 big 16g on her 2.4L DSM. also has 272 cams if i remember right. when it hits full boost it tappers back down a little, but still wicked good fun my buddy says lol. and i think this is a little bit smaller less efficient setup than the new evo stuff?

a 10.5 housing IX turbo im sure would be awesome. :noel:

Probably fun in a street car with quick spool.

Evo3 big 16g has nothing on the evo9-9 16g!

Found a 9.8T turbo with 300 miles on it, just $175. From the pictures of the exhaust wheel, it almost looks like a new turbo.

I plan on doing a twinscroll sinktrap of some sort for one of the H22 setups later this year. I hope to start with my s-trim t3/t04b once I get the f22 swapped & running. Regardless this year should be much better than the last 2. :-*

Most I made was 350hp with one on a z6. It was a none twin scroll setup that spooled a bit slow but felt good. I say open up the f22, re-ring the motor with loser end gap and crank it close to 400hp

With the h22 head it should be 8.4:1 so nog boost will be a possibility. Even 300whp will make me happy, especially since I want to keep it twinscroll. It should spool much nicer than an ebay turbo.

for 300 max i would go with the smaller (earlier powerband), but both arent really big either so it shouldn't make a big difference, post some compressor maps i am sure we can all pitch in, but in the end youll just be splitting hairs

its not like my 18cm hx35 ...

You'll make a lot better power with the bigger hotside, and no loss of spool.  H variants like big hotsides.

MAn speakls truth. My motor curbstomps an open T4 .81 with 67mm inducer s cover compressor.

I'll keep an eye open for a bare 10.5 housing. I'm not looking for crazy numbers yet.

FYI the big 16g map from stealth316 shows ~460cfm, whereas the 16g6 shows 580cfm at the same spot (65% & 14.5psi).

How many whpz is that?  Volume flow @ pressure has always annoyed me, just tell me the mass flow or GTFO.

I think it's in the range of 45lb/min if you peg the turbo, maybe 35 lb/min for my intended use. I've seen people get near 400whp with a stock turbo, and my friend had a built evo with 450whp with a clipped turbine.
