So, I'm sick of the shit job market in Florida. There is nothing here for people with half a brain. Other than tourist shit and food service you get construction and auto repair. None of those interest me. I'm considering picking up and moving somewhere. Anyone have any advice? I have a really good friend willing to rent my house for a year so I can test this out without selling it. I can't stand the idea of driving a car in salty snow while it crumbles around me, so really cold places are sorta out of the question. I am sick of floridas humidity and 3 days of cold every year though. Ok, done rambling, thoughts?

good work in jacksonville in the transportation industry, Logistics, Salvage, etc, i know you want to get out of fl but it might be worth checking out

Sounds like you're stuck. I'm sorry.
-
Yea, I know of that company. I want work that gives you a chance to think and I think it's just time for a complete fresh start to my life. New friends, new job, new scenery, everything. I can't go anywhere in Jacksonville without being bombarded with people asking tuning questions. I live 20min south in St. Augustine

Thanks JD. Trying to have a serious discussion. I should have known better than to do that here. Lol

Park ranger.
Just start a business again. Do sales for some random industrial shit and make retarded money.
Most jobs dont require problem solving skills or challenges. Get money, chillax O0
-
I'm actually talking to a friend that knows investors and has had his hands in a few starts of pretty successful businesses. Gonna see what we can come up with

People with half a brain don't have jobs, they have other people make them money.

Move to Canada and work the oil fields.
-
Somewhere theres a trailerpark looking for another faggot. Find it. Mover there, and stay the fuck away from Wa
-
It's tempting to move to Washington just out of spite now. Lol. Nothing makes me want to deal with that kind of cold though.
-
Lol, you act like its cold here winter loses around 40* highs aground 45* not much snow if any at all. Most times it will show up for a day and then be gone. We only got snow 1 day this year. Summers are pretty mild. Low around 60* highs around 75-80*

I was being completely serious. You want work that is intellectually challenging, and a chance for a high pay scale with future advancement. You are saying you want to fucking suffer while uncertainty hangs over your head. Some things that you think are the unpleasant facts of life are actually your friend - the daily grind helps you by not throwing you a bunch of curve balls in an attempt to fuck you every time you turn around.

WA gets winters, but it's not the Great White North. Survey says you won't like the artic chill of Southern GA. ::)

Three options come to mind:
-First, in Florida check out Ritchie Brothers Auctions, they do heavy equipment auctions. My sister works for them up here in Canada and they have treated her very well. It also gets your foot in the door into a new area (heavy duty equipment).
-Second, Texas oilfield or off shore. Off shore probably being the better choice as you are more likely to advance quickly. When life and death are on the line all the time, people with brains move. This way you still get the warm non salty climate, but have a chance for a challenging career that pays well.
-Third, Suck it up princess, and move to Dakota's/Wyoming/Colorado ect... Bakken Oilfield.
-
Pacific NW is where it's at.
I also vote: start your own thing. Lots of interesting things to do.

Yea Adam, I'm sitting down with the friend tomorrow all day to see what we can do with his business starting ability and his friends money. I really love my house and town I live in. It would be ideal to find something I enjoy here.

Maybe get into a community investment thing, one of the guys I work with is getting together with 8 of his friends to fund a business.
No banks or lenders to deal with :noel:

Yeah, just eight people who all think they're the boss. Sounds like a fucking disaster.
-
Yea, I'm open to learning and listening to other opinions, but I can't see that working out.

Incorporate, assign shares and voting rights, assign a ceo.
Same as any other business.

Except no businessmen involved.
-
Because theyre just investors funding a business.
You can do fun things with contracts including limiting or nulifying investor input makijg it the same as any other business with the lack of bank fees and interest.
-
do you have an education and any skills that make you useful?????

Sounds like 2002 for me. Except I had the product/molds and was currently selling fine, my friend was the "business startup guy" that was going to push sales and marketing, and his dad supposedly had the money to fund growth (which he never did loan to my friend - because he doesnt believe in his own kid, i dont blame him!). Ultimately I walked on the entire thing is less then 6 months and started up doing something else LESS the partner. Talk about a cluster fuck.
I'm anti-partner in general. You need one leader, period. Minimize the mouths to feed. Too many equity stakes and you will spread yourself thin in tough times.
-
Stay out of NJ lol not joking.......
-
I'm with you Adam, this guy is more interested in helping me and keeping me from moving. He doesn't really want to take anything from it, he has plenty going on.
And lol, no chance in going to NJ. I don't care what good work might be there.
-

Or are you from the "im going to start a business, maybe something with cars or airplanes or a chinese restaurant" school of thought
-
If you have a degree in some sort of enginnering or other tech field or a it of experience. Huntsville Alabama of all places has some options. Don't know what there current job market is like but they have alot of jobs that need that kind of stuff. Also the area is awesome and beautiful, pretty awesome place.
What are your experience or job qualifications? That will really help us in lending advice.
-
I don't have a lot education. Did some welding and machining classes. That's about it other than a high school diploma. I am a Jack of all trades kinda guy. I do paint and composite repairs on extra aircraft currently. I have also assembled them and done the mechanical repairs/mods, sheet metal repair/fabrication, etc. Of course being on this site built tons of turbo kits and engines, tune on a weekly basis and all that. I have always wanted to take an ME class and do that whole thing but my squirrel length attention span would never allow it.
-
Hmm. If you want to move out of labor type jobs, you need to have the education necessary for employers to responsibly hire you. Even where you have employees for many years that are super qualified otherwise, there is a shallow top to the level many can ever really attain in comparison to degreed (and thus supposedly qualified) individuals. You see this everywhere.
Many of my friends who are degreed engineers run into this in many companies (hyster, intel, boeing), as a bachelors degree is considered only good enough to get them into a working position (maybe). You need an MBA or a masters to ever get into management and even that's slim. Forget upper management unless you went ivy league mba.
It's total bull shit, but it seems to be the way of corporate world (and thus high paychecks $$$).
-
Unless you have a portfolio of awesomness in welding and the aircraft trade then you're pretty much out of luck with out some sort of college or some serious serious experience (see: 10 years with a company or companies that do the same thing)
Suck it up and start going back to school unless you want to attempt to start a business.
It's rough and it sucks. I'm doing it now and it's kicking my ass.
-
he has mad marketable skills. just needs to learn to talk them up

I have actually been with this company over 10 years. I'm working on an idea though. Gonna be a pile of work, but enough diversity to hopefully keep my interest. Plus can be slowed eased into over time starting with nights and weekends. The company I work for is very cool with part time workers too as things progress
