Anyone know the ins and outs or have a hook-up at the DMV in Washington?
I just bought a rust free turbo accord that I'd like to look into a little before I cut it up.
Supposedly the owner bought it but never transferred title before it broke down.
Clutch line needed bled and I drove it on the trailer.
I know my last barn find in pa I filed a form and for $5 I was given the last titled owners name and address. Then I tracked them down and for $22.50 they filed for a duplicate title, then transferred to me. So for less than $50 and some patience I was able to get a clean title.
Thanks guys

Part of my old job was getting cars for the junkyard with good paper work.

Kinda same deal u report to DMV needing address send a certified letter to last owner comes back returned in open take to DMV and set it up in you name takes 3 years to get actual title. If u can't find original owner

Colt, you mean you got the paperwork for the cars, or you only got cars that had the proper paperwork?
jdm, yeah I found the process for replacing a lost title. I might give it a couple weeks before I cut it, see what happens. Its only an accord I guess, no one seems to want them anyway.
What form do I need to file to get the previous owners info? That's what I want/need I think.

Looks like this is the form I would need http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/224003.pdf (http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/224003.pdf)
not as vague as the one for PA, looks like they actually want to know why you want the info and what you plan on doing with it. Might not work but worth a shot unless someone here knows a better way.

WTF are you doing on the other side of the country?

This is in pa with a Washington plate, haven't checked the glove box for registration yet though. That would crack me up if it was listed there.
I bought it dirty cheap to cut up, but my buddy really wants me to get a title and flip it.
It's painfully slow but complete, drives and rides great minus the shit brakes.
Fmu, missing link, and afc old school

I love me some delta gate action...... I hate the dmv here locally in my town. Next town over though, totally cool. I've been fighting with the dmv for my nova. But that because there is no record of it. Wa state drops all records of unregistered cars after 7 years. So if you don't have paper work for it have fun.... They want sales tax on it even if its yours and you don't have paerwork for it. If you have a bill of sale for a 94 Integra for $500 they will charge you tax on 4k because that's what the book says its worth. So you then have to show them paper work stating that it needs this and that from a shop with a price attached to the labor/parts.

I told you it was old school.
Funny thing is the JY said it was some old lady driving it when it broke down.
She claimed she bought it in WA and drove it here.

That has to be the most interesting vehicle sale in the history of 'MURICUH.

I am easily amused

I know every state is different but have you attempted to look into the mechanics lien? The truth of the matter is that possession is 9/10ths of the law so it would be very hard for it to come back on you. I've gotten a couple of dirty titles (where someone else filled out the name of the buyer and I still bought it). I found it wasn't worth the hassle so I scrapped the cars out.
But that accord looks like it would be worth saving. I feel bad for tossing out a delta gate where I couldn't find a replacement diaphragm a long time ago.

best and quickest way to obtain legal paper work in Washington is to call the sheriff. tell him the deal, and that you need him to come take a look at a car you bought.

I hang on to this POS for how many weeks, Tuesday decide to cut it.
Figures my buddy finds a copy of the insurance that fell inside some trim with the previous owners name and address.
Oh well a little late to turn back now.
