Title: I've Done it now... ( Identify this Flange)
Post by: pitobread on August 07, 2013, 12:48:51 AM
Few months back I went crazy on Yahoo Japan and bought a set of ITB's for what was listed as BP-ZE for absolutely retarded cheap. When they arrived I compared them to a 1.6 manifold I had laying around. looked very similar but bigger... The port spacing was wider so hurrr duurrr I assumed(wrong) that it was 1.8L! I don't have a spare engine/head that is 1.8 so I couldn't at the time check it out.

Doing the turbo thing I made up a plentum for it, fabbed a custom fuel rail and basically made it in to a functional setup. I was going to install it in a few weeks so I grabbed new gaskets. Problemo.

See attached picture. I have made an error, full stop.

So to get my money out of it I need to figure out what it is for exactly.  You nogs are smrt so help me out.

Definitely not AE101.  Everything is symmetrical and AE are not.  Plus the port spacing is huge.  That is the 1.8L gasket chilling on there.

Looks like a BP-ZE or BP4W which is what we have here.

I'm guessing you picked up a gasket for a pre 99 miata. BP05 style.

Heads were changed on the 99 miata.

Whats this going in? The NB head flows better so you could swap one on.

I have both a 96 and a 99 Gasket here, both too narrow.  But the 99 fits slightly better as in the port height is correct.  Still way off though.

It looks like a BP tho !@#$%

Well.......seeing as how Mazda B series engines have the injector bosses in the head, what made you think this would work on one?

Lots of ITB setups move the injector closer to the throttle blade and use plugs to button up the head, Fuji/OER for one example.

Interesting. Never seen any miata setups like that.
