So I picked one up used. Torn down to a short block. Pistons, and rods are still hung on the crank and the main caps are still in tact and the cam and timing chain is still in/on it. I have the heads and intake harness, and all the parts to put it back together. Guy I got it from said he pulled it apart to do a rebuild and never did. Motor looks in good shape. Just thinking about pulling it the rest of the way down and cleaning it up, opening the rings a touch, checking bearings and replace if needed. Otherwise buttoning it back up, dropping in the nova and then boosting it.
Talk to me about this
1. Stock head bolts vs arp bolts vs arp studs.
2. Stock rod bolts vs arp bolts
3. Gasket set...... mother fuckers are spendy
4. Stock oil pump vs hi psi vs hi volume pumps
5. Ls1 intake or the lq4 intake, I have both
6. Flex plate spacer? Heard I need to run one if I'm gonna use my th400
Anything else post it here. It's gonna be a slow build. Probably won't put it in until next year.

2. Stock rod bolts vs arp bolts (Everyone seems to run oem ones making big power)
3. Gasket set...... mother fuckers are spendy (Ls1, ect)
4. Stock oil pump vs hi psi vs hi volume pumps (Oem)

I've heard shitty reports about the china head studs. Ross said they didn't torque down worth a fuck and they stretched well beyond the point to reuse them.
Also I saw some ware online where they did some testing and the stock truck intake manifolds flowed better than the ls1/ls6 intake did.

Seen tons of people using them with out issues. Matt Happel also a rhmt meber with the turbo white truck has made over 800hp with out issues. He also created the sloppy group and wiki

Not going for big numbers. Just want insta boost and insta tq. I don't care if this thing falls flat on its face after 5k. I want a v8 version of a d16/rhb5. Gonna pull it apart, check ring gap, maybe open them a hair, check bearings, if it needs them then ill replace them, if not ill slam it back together with a $200 ebay gasket set, and a oem oil pump.ill check liftes and cam and if its good put it back together. I'll probably end up with arp head bolts.
Next question. Do I need to upgrade anything with the valvetrain? All I want Is 500ish hp/tq on the rhmt Flux core budget.

Well I'm gonna roll the dice on the china head studs and give them a go. Went out last night and double checked to see which ones I needed. Ordered them last night. Also ordered a full gasket set on ebay last night and some motor mount plates.

This is the car I was planning when I started that damn crx.
Figure any minute now a good shell should pop up since I'm completely broke.
Almost anything pre 1970 basically.
