Title: Camero motor swap
Post by: random-strike on April 22, 2018, 02:13:55 AM
Took old motor and tranny out today. Went easy.

If it ain't a Chevy we don't mess with it. Murica. My son Vic eldenbroc bliss agrees

That's a blueprint engines 427cid sbc. I forget what they say the power is. I think it's 550 long block

How does 500 hp feel in one of those old Camaros?

I went for a ride in an old built firebird 400 and it was spooky. Drums on all 4 corners heat up to fast

They are light by muscle car standards.

The old 400 sbc was 450ish hp and lots of torque. With the 4speed it would spin in 3rd depending on how big the tires were

This one has front discs at least.

When it was 4 wheel drums you could only really stop once from 100+ then you'd have to let them cool or it be skechty.

Stock suspension geometry is bad and they don't brake or turn jnstock form

apparently he used my power washer and cleaned the engine bay up pretty well so we might put the motor in relatively soon.

hes buying a 3" mandrel header back exhaust, clutch and pressure plate, and a couple other small things. once those come we could probably start thinking about preparing to maybe put the other motor in

well basically shit went down at least my old man had it insured for 50k, its totalled no doubt, i dunno if its worth "buying back" because the body has been buckled and wrinkled in spots. a new front subfame is easy but the body is not. i'm pretty sure they're going to total it. my dad wrecked it the first time he floored it went sideways locked up brakes and slide off road into a truck parked in someones yard. got a really bad concussion lots of bruises etc etc

It's all a matter of $$.

Just like in my business. It can be fixed, how much do you want to spend.

They want 12500 to buy back which is ridiculous. No one could make money with it at that price

been a while but my dad finally felt like buying another car.

we looked at a 1970 chevelle ss454 "ls5" wanted 67k for it... car looked great but had lots of little problems and some big ones they didn't care to mention. tranny wouldn't go into reverse without grinding and i drove it and it was gutless as fuck... i asked the guy and he said the 454 was out of a 76 truck... really? the car came w/ ls5 454 but doesn't have it now, and they tried to pass it off without saying anything... idiots.

looked at a 67 chevelle and it had a great 396 motor and 5spd trans but the paint was 5/10 with tons of chips and bubbles in roof/trunk and messed up body lines big gaps etc... wanted 55k wouldn't go down in price  ::)

he finally bought a 70 ss396 chevelle w/ 4spd for 50k from a museum and had it shipped.

car is pretty good but not like they said.. has some small problems and doesn't look at as good as it did in the pictures... has rear main seal leak, had a bunch of vacuum leaks, messed up choke on carb, some misc things inside that aren't working right but not bad. paid 50k and 2k to ship. we fixed a lot of the stuff already and it runs pretty good now.

this one is insured for 75k

worked on the car a little bit has some bad oil leaks, was leaking really bad out of the back of intake. did intake gaskets, has a reman quadrajet carb on it. runs really well WOT, part throttle sucks. needs tuning. its too lean.

has oil leak out of the oil pressure sender, leaks onto the headers. pretty annoying. the flapper door on the cowl induction doesnt work anymore. ordered a new one.

sure gets a lot of attention
