Title: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on March 10, 2025, 05:28:58 PM
anyone fucking with these things, everything is cheap except the initial purchase of the kart itself, even if its POS they still want hundreds of dollars. whatever lol

my son and i have been fucking around with mini bikes and go karts, hes getting interested in fabrication so we've been doing small things here and there on them

i bought this temu mini bike on a whim and it would barely move with the stock setup once you got going it would go good enough but it was pretty gay

i bought a new front sprocket and a motor with 1.8kw ~ 3hp instead of the stock 1.6 (claimed) hp.

its a pretty noticeable difference on how it runs you can tell it at least has more power, combined with the smallest front sprocket its actually is pretty fast lol...

Post by: random-strike on March 10, 2025, 05:42:23 PM
it kept throwing the chain while we were testing out the new motor and sprocket because the rear axle would slip around because of having too small of washers, so basically we extended the end of the swing arm for more adjustment  because i couldn't find my chain breaker, and it gives him a chance to make something, we also used some old 67 camaro fender spacers for washers

he welded them with my flux core unit. i was surprised he did good, he has been taking classes at school too

temu got me with this green one for $200 bucks lol...

it basically has the same motor but a small front sprocket, and larger rear, it is ridable with a low top speed how it comes, i moved the bars forward so you can sit with your knees like normal so its pretty cool lol

i cut up a pocket bike exhaust and put it on it, and it defeatedly feels better than the stock muffler, not too loud but kinda loud i guess

i bought a 3hp motor for it, and i'll switch the front sprocket and it will be fast lol

we're going to fix up this go kart, paid $300 just for what you see + a old 196cc china motor that doesn't have all the parts to know if it runs or not

but its going to be a fun project, going to buy one of those tiny amazon turbos and put it on just for fun

first thing we're going to do is move the axle and motor back, and get as much leg room as possible. that'll be our first fab project

oh yeah and perhaps most importantly this whole show made me motivated to clean my garage, and 1200lbs of shit later its pretty decent

i also bought this returned and pre assembled habor freight tool box for $223 which i thought was pretty cool, i hate assembling shit

My brother has been building dirt bikes with my niece and nephews and I keep thinking about slapping one of these turbos on one.

yeah those turbos are sweet.

i watched a lot of youtube videos where they install them, they say it doesn't built boost but does increase the power a little bit because of the extra air coming in, but it'll be cool nonetheless

fuck for some reason wheels and tires are expensive for go karts wtf

itss about 300 bucks for the cheapest wheels and tires i could find that went together and will work on my axle
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on March 11, 2025, 04:00:54 PM
300 bucks for a set of four wheels and tires lol. and these are the gayest wheels you can get.

i'll paint them or something

the tires are cool though lol

they are 13" tall and 5" wide so they look small in the pic but should be cool IRL

I wonder if you can use a generic heat exchanger as an intercooler for extra cool guy points.

I wonder if you can use a generic heat exchanger as an intercooler for extra cool guy points.

im sure some type of heater core or something would work, they usually have 5/8 openings which is about what the air intake is for the motor lol

we cut out the motor mount and axle mounts, to move them back to give us some ADULT sized leg room.

need to wait until next week for the axle and new axle mounts / bearings to come. need to make sure that the axle placement leaves enough room for the sprocket

hater pipe and estimated axle placement

a lot of parts are supposed to arrive today, but not everything. some stuff i had to order from gopowersports because it was way too specific to guess if amazon shit is the right stuff or not.

but the parts to see if the engine runs or not should be here today

well it runs, seems like it runs good

the governor is messing it up trying to free rev it, i think im just going to bypass it but i have to fabricate a different linkage. ive seen some videos showing how to make something that should work

Axle hangers and bearings on, extended the little grab bar at the back to fit the new air filter and give a little more room for motor

Also added a little guide for the brake rod
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts

Should have all parts needed to finish Wednesday next week

Since this motor smokes so bad I ordered a China 420cc 15hp motor lol

Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on March 16, 2025, 03:13:38 PM
was bored last night so i added some guides for the throttle cable. you know you're getting old when you care about stupid shit like throttle cables getting caught in sprockets or ripped off by shit.

Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on March 16, 2025, 08:43:47 PM
Gotta wait till Wednesday for axle kinda stuck in a loop for a bit

One of the bolts broke when I was hitting them with the impact lol. I'll get one next time I go to store

420cc motor still being shipped but we got it going with the 200cc one that smoked it's pretty fast lol

The boy and I terrorized the neighborhood today on the go kart and minibikes

After a few mins off hard riding the go kart motor stopped smoking. No smoke at all now the rings must have reseated

Lol

I also put the stock muffler on, it was too loud for the neighborhood.

It hit 40mph with the stock muffler, didn't test with the straight pipe but I think it could hit 45

The muffler really cuts rpm down at top speed

Title: Re: mini bike / go karts

not sure what the cart had for returning the brake and throttle before, but there was nothing there. so we added some return springs, and some pull limiters and stoppers on the rods. so you can't just press the throttle so far it breaks lol...

Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on March 23, 2025, 02:08:18 PM
also had to to make a new rod for the throttle, it broke while i was trying to modify it

used a kill switch off one of the mini bikes original engines

Title: Re: mini bike / go karts

not sure why i took this picture i guess you can see the stock muffler lol

gotta take the thing apart and hit the frame with some gloss black.

also this mini bike is the most fun of the two i have assembled, its weird how it has pretty good suspension on it

i found out that these springs are basically mountain bike springs, i bought one for $17 that is supposed to have 1500lbs of resistance or some shit. the difference is massive from the one that came with the bike

Yeah it's fun I sold the little mini bikes and bought a new roller from gopowersports

The go kart is insanely fast prob 60mph lol

The clutch won't hold the power so you have to take off kinda easy once it catches you take off like crazy

It's faster than a lot of cars lol

It needs a "torque converter" cvt thing
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: fastivab6tg25mr on April 01, 2025, 04:24:57 PM
60 on a go-kart is crazy fast!

Better throttle is really nice now
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on April 05, 2025, 02:28:30 PM
Go kart is awesome lmao

I put a 54 tooth sprocket on and it lowered the top speed to about 40 just guessing but it doesn't slip the clutch at all anymore and just takes off like crazy spins the wheels when turning going fast around corners

I think something in-between the 42 and 54 I have. I bought a 48 tooth which I think will be pretty good. I think it does need a little more speed without revving out the motor. The governor is off but they arent made to rev extremely high lol

Also had to get a jet kit it lean bogs / hesitates on the hit and barely does it once really heated up fully after some rips

Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on April 11, 2025, 12:52:39 AM
Exhausts is cool, sounds good pretty quiet sounds like a stock 250 dirt bike

I also rejetted it and it's pretty dialed. I had a lot of problems with the bowl o ring gasket, I finally had to just silly cone it.

I went from a 104 jet to a 115. I think it needs a 120 or 125 but it runs a lot better

It hesitated a tiny bit on the hit a couple times where it was Everytime and would basically stop unless you eased in it

I'll probably put in the 125 I just don't want to take the bowl off again lol

It's awesome new motor should be here tomorrow and I got a CVT "torque converter" for it

The tank was shaking a lot so I added some rubber washers in there
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on May 02, 2025, 12:12:59 PM
i ran the CVT for a while, its a cheap chinese one and it didnt seem to work right. i had it lined up perfectly and it kept shredding belts so i took it off.

the low end torque was cool but it robbed a noticeable amount of power

when you run the cvt you have to put a riser plate on the engine to make room, it makes the stock muffler hit the frame so i was running it without a heat shield.

i didnt want to remove the riser so i could go back and forth if i wanted to i cut and rewelded the muffler so i could run the heat shield.

i have a little motorcycle muffler and some 1" exhaust pipe i might make a exhaust for it today
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on May 02, 2025, 12:21:14 PM
built another minibike so we could run around town on them without taking the ridic go kart, its crazy fast... and the cops don't seem to mind the mini bikes not sure if blasting down the roads on a insane go kart would be the same leniency lol

its a azusa kit and it def isn't as nice and put together as a gopowersports kit.

but its cool, i didn't want something the same

it keeps throwing the chain i bought a chain roller guide/tensioner for it, hasn't came yet. the frame isn't aligned perfectly or the sprocket is bent... lol

i can fix by moving the rear axle mount a little bit, or hopefully just this tensioner will stop it from coming off. i guess a lot of these old skool style frames dont' do well with 7.5hp motors when they were designed for 3hp. the frame can twist and throw the chain, and this one comes off randomly when you really give it a lot of gas

they also forgot to send the grips & throttle & throttle cable. i had to buy some expensive ones from the local motorcycle shop lol
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts

Post by: random-strike on June 23, 2025, 01:34:38 PM
the carb really kills the sound out of the turbo but you can hear it a little bit, and a little bit out of the exhaust but nothing really cool.

the "high temp grease" doesn't seem to work for long term, after a while of riding it gets too hot and one of the fins on the compressor or exhaust wheel hits the housing...

im not sure what else i could try to put in it, maybe gear oil? something that can stand the heat.

this turbo also might be a shit one, i guess A LOT of these turbos are bad out of the box. they're like old school CHY NA turbos.

i bought another one same exact one, and might just return this one if the new one doesn't have any problems.

im also thinking about building a built stroker motor that can rev higher and create more exhasut to spin the turbo.

building a motor like these is really cheap honestly probably less than $500 to have a built motor
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on June 23, 2025, 06:11:38 PM
i took the grease out and put in some gear oil and it works better, turbo spins easier and you can hear it now more.

its just a wierd thing because sometimes it'll go up to 8psi sometimes i can't get it to go over 4, not sure. i think maybe this turbo just doesn't work right

i guess we'll see how the new one works not sure.

What about using a little standalone sump and pump like a chainsaw bar oiler that runs off the crank. You could use a cheap harley oil cooler as the sump/cooler
Title: Re: mini bike / go karts
Post by: random-strike on June 24, 2025, 12:56:33 PM
yeah ive seen people that do that but its kinda a PITA. you have to add a battery too with a little electric pump is what most ppl seem to do.

never thought about a manual pump

it seems like the gear oil is working pretty well

Or something like this. Weld a socket on the end of the shaft coupler and put it on the crank bolt.

I took the vm22 (one size bigger carb) oh the go kart and put it on the mini bike and it fucking rips! Lol

I guess the carb was too small. It builds over 10psi just free revving on the stand

I haven't fully tested yet, but it actually rips now lol
