Title: Should I boost the mullet mobile?
Post by: turbostd on May 14, 2009, 06:13:24 PM
Well my eg sedan project car is no more (damn ohio rust) and I want to start another project of some kind. I bought this 89 camaro rs from a friend of mine about 4 or so years ago as a roller. I threw a low mile 350 crate motor and 350 trans in it but ran out of fundage to finish it and then gas prices went through the roof so I got into smaller cars. Now that gas prices are semi reasonable I want to finish the camaro and atleast get it drivable. I aqured lots of turbo parts for the honda(s) I had including a pretty beefy scwitzer turbo. I have been thinking about throwing it on the camaro once i get it running good. I have a 650 holly carb to mod and stick on it for boost if i go that route. I am also thinking about just sticking a cam and good set of heads on it and call it a day. As it sits the car needs a bunch of little shit to be drivable but it is in really nice shape. Would you boost it?

This car started life as a 2.8 v6 car. The motor in it now i was told was a gm 290hp 350 crate motor. All I know is it sounds strong as hell idling open dump  :somb: Can you beleve they put the 2.5l 4cyl iron duke in some of these cars  :-X

looks like that y7 is a 96 judging by the 95 head stamp. Strange the car it came from was a 99 lol.

I don't mind that body style.  They do have thier issues, Squeak/rattle noises, cracked dashboards, crappy cornering, etc.

and I have a nice example of one of those cars sitting in Buffalo, NY right now that is just waiting be finished up.  Haven't touched the car since 1999 when I bought it and ripped the engine and trans out.  But the car is mint in and out.  no rust as it was a SC car.  I just need to get it hauled on down here to AL along with my other rides up there in storage.

damn, everytime i find a y7 it's too old to be legal in ca.
pisses me off, i'm just trying to get my car registered in ca again. maybe i'm better off just keeping the reg in nevada
This one wolden't have helped you anyhow then as i am in ohio lol.

Ya this car is pretty clean for an ohio car it only has one small spot of rust on the rear pass quarter. If i can find a red front fender for the pass side the outside would be pretty nice. The inside on the other hand  :-X The inside was nice untill i put it in storage with the windows down and a stray cat decided to use the inside for a bed and litterbox  :-X :-X

I dislike felines and rodents.

Had to clean out a blower motor in a 95 impala today at work, a mouse made itself home in the swirl cage.  After cleaning it out, the air coming out the ducts smelled like urine, so I had to treat that.  I hate cleaning up after critters.

any ideas how to get the cat smell from the interior?

I got some duct deodorant from CarQuest worked tits.  Not sure if it will work on carpet and upholstry.  You need to find something that says it will neutralize odors.  Kinda like febreze

Yes you should boost it. Go to a carpet place and get the urine pre treater to get that piss stink out.

A rag soaked in GM supercharger oil.  Nothing on the planet earth smells worse and will make you convulse/puke quicker than that.  Should cover the cat smell no problem.

I agree, but used is the worst/best, I doubt the cat would even attempt to make your ride a shit pan ever again.

How-ever bad you think rear-end oil is, supercharger oil is worse. Darkelvis and Conceptz know what im talking about.

haha yeah i helped a buddy replace a burned up supercharger nose, oh my god me were close to puking.

idk on the cost but there is a local detail shop that uses a machine/process called ozone.

it pretty much gets any smell out, smoke, piss, water... etc. they use it on auction cars.

burnt up 200K mile rear end grease smells like a fucking field of flowers compared to GM supercharger oil...that shit is fucking rank.

Very true, but the power output of similar cars of the era was just as pathetic.

Why is this even being posed as a question?

there shouldn't be a question like this on a realhomemadeturbo forum. We turbo shit with jb weld and old used up turbos.

I dont think gear lube smells at all, and GM supercharger oil isnt that bad new. I work on pumps that have ran for 50 years with various grease or oil burnt into the bearings, then I heat it up with torches and let the smoke show begin to get the old bearings out. That my freinds is fun stuff. ::)

Well 2 cans of foam carpet cleaner got most of the cat smell from the interior lol. I took it for a ride around the block and the thing wouldn't shift out of 2nd. Here i forgot to hook the modulator line up. I also bottomed out on a small dip (car has v6 front springs still and sits really low) and broke the exhaust off at the muffler lol. Gotta admit it sounds nice open dump just a bit to loud for my taste. Car seems to run good but it does load up a bit at idle but that's due to the high quality qudra-junk carb on it. Once I get the bugs worked out Ill start planning for boost :P
