I know it's easy to get a laptop under $700, but I need something with some decent computing power, video processing that can handle games from 3 years ago (IE: HL2 engine), and won't break in 6 months.  Battery life would be good, but isn't essential.
As always, the cheaper the better.   :somb:

you wont. anything under 700 is going to have standard intel graphix cards. those suck and cant play halflife 2 very well at all.
get a desktop for that price. you can get a damn good beefy system for 700 bones.
actually, now that i looked at the non intel pc's, i found this.

As you mentioned, I am only looking for products without the the integrated intel video... not too many out there!

3600 mhz FSB  :o... very nice.  2 complaints with that one... It's a compaq (HP) and it's almost $800.
I'm looking at this one for $599... damn good price for the capabilities I think -

Notebooks with HDMI output - If you can source a BluRay quality image and have a 1080p cabaple TV, will it look as good as playing directly off a BR player?

I have an Asus. 64 bit, 4 gb DDR2, 9800m GS video card with 1g dedicated video memory, HDMI output, etc. Cost me about 700 if I remember correctly.
