Title: Decent trade 2.0
Post by: Doug on May 28, 2009, 12:40:11 AM
Have a guy interested in trading cars with me. Straight trade. Suggestions?

Mine:
1999 Honda Civic DX Hatchback
145k miles
Stock
Bad input shaft bearing (inside tranny), rip in bumper, dent in hood, and bad tire, other than that stock and nice.

His:
1993 300ZX non turbo

J30 differential
13k on clutch
20mpg  :?:
AC needs recharged

I don't know jack about these cars except they have a cramped ass engine bay.

I would have, but the guy had someone coming to look first with cash and he said he was needing the money bad. Needless to say the guy bought it.

Pretty clean car.

I'd do it.

Kinda odd that he's wanting to trade it for a little hatch.

Ah so found the catch; clear coat is peeling. Look at first picture you can see right before the T top and he said a little on the hood and hatch. Not really that big a deal was going to have to paint the hatchie anyway.

After agreeing to meet at 12 and everything said and done he says "oh no need to bring titles, we'll just look tomorrow. I want to make sure you're happy." Something sounds fishy as hell. Why wouldn't you want to bring a title to get it over with?

dont get the 300zx, i can guarantee you something is wrong with it. 150 on that is like 350k on a honda, that engine is at the end of its life, and I dont think you can afford to swap that engine out or want to attempt it yourself.  Dont do it.  I've had 2 300zx tt's and they are a bitch, a non turbo isnt much better.

Yeah I can't help but think something is up. Not to mention 16/20mpg sucks ass for a car that's not that powerful. I'm bored with the hatch. Longest I kept a car was my EF hatch which I had for four years. Rest I hardly keep a year. Only 24 and on my 15th car

harnesses in a non turbo 300 zx with undersized tires screams "I drive the living fuck out of this"

Why get rid of a versitile Honda for that lump?

Those cars are overcomplicated pieces of shit.  On top of the usual mediochre Nissan build quality problems they consume injectors, rot out the frame where the rear end bolts in, shit lifters, and even the simplest mechanical procedure is rendered an ordeal by how they made an engine too wide to shoehorn into any other Nissan chassis and then built a chassis with 1/4" clearance to house it.

I would do it cause its worth mroe than what you got.  Flip it time.

Beautiful car, And because I'm an intellectual being,  teh ricer straps.  Id detail teh hell out of it, see if i couldnt pop that dent on the fender out a little more and then see what happens after riding it around with a for sale sign in it.

You're stupid.  Goforth's been trying to flip a freshly painted 93 non-turbo for over a year, for trade in value.  It has 60-75K on it.  He can't get anybody to come look at it.

Those later turbo 300Z were in direct competition with the 2JZ Supra, nearly identical factory specs, but they fell off the face of the map because nobody likes them.  Try selling one, no one will come to look at it.  Try selling a Civic, holy shit your phone rings off the hool for two weeks because people like Civics.

Isn't the VQ in everything? Pumpfinders, old 300's , new 300's, 350's infiniti's , murano's, altima's , Maxima's, Trucks, K-cars....ect.

Its a VG30, not a VQ.  And the heads are different, making it significantly wider than the block in the maxima.

Well eat shit.  round here the black folk love em, but i agree they arent the most popular of cars generaly speakin and actually i have never tried to sell one, i was just goin off what was worth more.  i guess if no ones buying it it aint worth a pot to piss in.  So really i have no valid retort for you.

So haha i have hair you dont neener neener. how you like me now.

the front end aerodynamics are the only real plus side to the car.  then you swap a f20c, and have all the room in the world + 500hp capability weighing 400lbs less

Has this been done?

These sell like hotcakes in this area, turbo or non, since people like em and there arent too many around

Putting a lower displacement engine into a chassis that can accept a larger displacement engine with more potential goes against my redneck breeding.

LSx or nothing at all.

This is why I posted this up, I don't know shit about these. From now on I shall PM my car prospects to Lord JD. Guy sent me a message at 12 this afternoon saying he couldn't make it he got called into work. This is when I was supposed to be meeting him 2 hrs away. Glad I was still in bed, fucker. I would have been pissed if I drove all that way for nothing.

no one wants the non-turbo, I see them fairly cheap all the time.  Clean turbo models go for a mint though.
