So I have a Y8 head I am stripping down, check valve seats, and wanting to clean up. What would be good cleaner to use on the internal parts of the head? Good ol' engine cleaner?
-
carb cleaner, just use in ventilated area or you may go blind
true story
-
some pretty good engine degreaser and a brush should work fine.
-
Foaming Engine Brite and rinse with Purple Power.
-
Sulpheric acid
j/k
Degreaser, purple power, pressure washer, or take it to a machine shop to have them throw it in the vat
-
I really prefer a filthy whore over all else though
-
throw it in the parts cleaner, and set it and forget it... come back in an hour or two, will be blingin O0
-
Oven cleaner on the outside of the head but dont let it sit to long it will start to eat it. and use brake cleaner on the inside. And pressure wash the shit out of it!
-
x2 oven cleaner and car wash is a great cheap alternative to a parts washer
-
parts cleaner ol' skool style w/ solvent, not that enviro-friendly hot water shit...
brake cleaner works wonders

Sprayed that shit on my Sol motor and let it sit 5min. Looked like it had damn leprosy. Had to sand the motor down to get rid of spots, but damn it was clean.
-
Like I said not to long....lol
I would let it sit for about 2 min. scrub it real well with a bruch and press. wash the shit out of it.
-
I use Tide liquid laudry soap straight with a toothe brush. ;D
Works good takes a while.
I sometimes use tide all over a trany or engine with bristle brush then rinse of with car wash hose.
But at the car wash I have to do it during night hours b/c around here people will complain b/c you are messing with public water.

live in CA?
-
No Wyoming but it is usually the Kali. natives who move up here and think they still live in KAli. that bitch about degreasing engine parts ;D
-
Got this blue acid stuff here at work we clean the epoxy floors with. Works good on engine parts, but if you let it sit stuff will start to dissolve... :?:
-
Does all of this stuff work well on Cast Iron heads?
-
yeah
I use to sand blast cast iron heads before I take them apart to do any machine work and then install new valvetrain. ;D
-
did you even bother to see that this question has already been gone over in this boards short life?
There's some gallon sized gan of carb or parts cleaner or some shit that everyone seemed to like the best. It was the shit that had a little metal tray in it to hold the parts. Find that thread and there was the name, picture, and where to buy it.
-
I remember that it was made Beryman I have three of the 3/4 gallon cans I use those for the small parts.
Then I still use Tide liquid detergent for the final cleaning. ;D

That's all good and well but I don't see a entire head fitting in that gallon bucket.
-
they make a 5 gallon bucket, just dip one half at a time
-
For the price of that I could just take it to get as dip at the machine shop. This is RHMT, I figured nogs would be using oven cleaner and throw it in the dishwasher or something.
-
Why didn't you try that and do a writeup
-
fuck all that shit get a gallon of oil eater soak head and valve train parts for 1 hour place in dishwasher on pot and pan mode mine came out clean
-
You gotta remember, if your not rebuilding the head, and just wanting to clean it up, 80% of the chem's listed in the head will destroy or prematurely ruin the valve stem seals. I use a mild degreaser like superclean diluted with water, a good brush and hot water.
