i have a car taking up space in my garage that my g/f got a loan for about 3 years ago, the car blew a head gasket, so she bought another car and stopped paying on this one about a year and a half ago. the car is a 98 eagle vision tsi. it is a very clean low mileage (65000) car. its a shame to have to get dispose of it but she owes more than the car is worth, even fixed, and im not all about fixing it.
she owes like 1200 on this car and the bank wont come get it, her friend was working at the bank at one time and said they wont come get the car cause it is more effort and expense than its worth.
so what do i do with the car? its taking up space in my garage and i just want it out of my way. im thinking about parting as much of it as i can on ebay, forums, and craigslist and sending the rest of it to the junkyard.
what is the worst that can happen if the bank one day does happen to come, even though i doubt they will. is parting and scrapping a bad idea?

common sense tells me that you will be charged with auto theft, also around here you cant junk a car without a clear title
-
Have your GF go to the bank and get her name off the cars title if possible. If they still don't come to get it, drive/push the car somewhere far and set it on fire.
-
thats kinda what i was afraid of, but im tired of it being in the way, and ive even called them and told them to come get it. they basically said it wasnt worth it to them.
there is a yard around here that will take anything, crush it on site and it will disappear in days....

If the bank changes it's mind they will still come to you and put you up for collection.
Either get your GF's name off the title, or have the bank put the title in her name which is very unlikely to happen. Just go down to the bank and ask what they want to do with it, keep everything very well documented. This way everyone stays happy at the end and no one is going to jail.
-
Drop the POS off in front of the Bank, make sure to make good use of markers or whatever to write all over the car.
-
i was really thinking about leaving it in the parking lot infront of the bank, and leaving a note that said something about its your problem now. i have a friend that works for a tow truck company, but i thought maybe that might not be such a good idea. with our luck they would have it towed to an impound lot and we would have to pay all the fees.
shes going to try talking to the bank again tomorrow, and ask them the best way to get this fucker out of my garage.
thanks
-
you sound liek a dumb shit, trying to sell parts off a car that you never finished paying for.... :mexi:
-
Send a certified letter to the bank telling them they have 15 days to remove it or it will be scrapped, or hell if they don't care take the letter up there and have them sign off on it. File or a abandoned title, fix the headgasket, and sell it for $1500
-

she is calling the bank today to tell them she wants it out of here, if i need to get it towed i have to connection, itll cost me a grand total of... nothing ;D
ill let you guys know how it turns out, thanks for the help.

Don't marry that stupid sow. $1200 'thrown away' to pay off that car is worth a good credit score, that bitch sounds like a lazy money disposal unit and no good can come from keeping her around.
If the house doesn't have her name on it, you should be able to file for abandoned vehicle... either to get the title, or to get the city/etc to tow it away for you. All perfectly legal.
I must say you're borderline unworthy of RHMT... it's a fucking headgasket, princess, man up and fix the car and some sucker will take it since it's low miles and lady driven.
-
Jesus dude its an eagle vision. The parts are worth more than the car. Chop that bitch up and part it out.

her credit was fucked long before this. her ex right before me got brand new vehicles together, he never paid his insurance and wrecked it while drunk one night. since he had no insurance, decided not to pay, and when they came to get his truck, they took his totaled truck, and her car too (which she stayed up on) as collateral. its a shitty situation but whatever.
sorry JD, its not the idea of doing the head gasket dosent bother me, the idea of doing it on a car that i dont know if i should put any money into was the issue. also if im going to spend anytime working on something itll prolly be my honda, i work in the oil field and am home around 5 days a month...

thats kinda what i was thinking... well have to see what happens with the title situation... if they end up releasing the title ill fix it. been procrastinating this issue for a year now. i havnt talked to her to see if got ahold of the bank.

Paying the car off will not do any good at this point, just waste your cash. I had paid some old dr bills in an attempt to bring my credit score up a few points, and paying them actually brought my score down. More than likely they wrote the car off to bad debit or sold it off to collections. What will happen since they have no interest in repoÃng is that the car is hers, but they wont release the title, so she can keep registering it, but will be unable to sell it.
If you just push it in the road and call a tow company or county/city to have it towed, they'll come after your gf for the balance of the tow/storage bill.
-
He can't sell it until its paid off, so he'd have to fix it(time and money out his pocket) and pay it off(more money) and then attempt to sell it.
Bank said they want nothing to do with the car, which also means that its off their books.
I'd junk it.

you can sell a car before it's paid off.
truf.
sell the pos, give bank money. profit.
lol.

Sounds like you've made a lot of bad life decisions and you want to make more.

Nobody in their right mind buys a fucking eagle vision to begin with. much less buys a used one for whatever she owes in this market. Part that bitch out and use the proceeds to buy drugs and trailerpark escorts.
-
Ask the bank "Who owns this vehicle?". The bank will probably say they own it. Tell them to tow it or transfer the title to you... I'm pretty sure the bank can't store THEIR vehicle on your property.

there are a few on craigslist here, all of them posted over $2,000
Thats cause they are trying to get rid of those awful cars as quick as possible. None will sell for the posted price.
-
Fix the POS flat rate style sell it pay off the bank and your done. No legal issues etc.I realize it wont fix credit ratings etc but for the piece of mind just get it dealt with.I'm sure you can get at least $1000 for the piece of shit if its clean and running well.

Fix car, then sell.
As for the credit record.
You could offer to pay the car off in exchange for having the late payments/default removed from your record. Get it in writing from them and notarized.
-
The previous poster is correct.

The bank has the car title which makes it a pain in the ass to sell
-
I am sure he could file for abandonment and get the title.
-
You can sell the car still. You just have to get a letter releasing the lien on the car from the bank. Not too hard, just might cost you a few days more in processing after you sell it.

Not really, buyer brings money, you both go to bank. Paperwork is signed. Deal is done.

Hey, I just ran up on a black E36 BMW. 318 fail cylinder car, slushbox, acres of room for a V8, the body/paint is a solid A, the interior is a C, I want it. The guy wants to sell it as parts since the chick who owned it stopped paying on it and the bank has a lein on it.
How do I get the car for less than the bank wants?

Bank might be asking for payoff. Speak with the bank and see if they will settle for a lesser amount. These days, many will on a defaulted loan, especially if the car is in need of repair.
There is another way, but it's kind of underhanded.
-
I know of mechanic liens, already getting one car that way. I don't want to ask for the second favor as I don't like to owe people.
