Title: Car with no title bullshit questions
Post by: Sinister on June 17, 2009, 10:00:19 PM
Basically I'm looking at this car, the guy has the title but it's not in his name. Some lady sold it to a guy without transferring the title, then he sold it to this guy, and now this guy is selling it. Hows that work with say a lost title? Or would I just have to find that lady and have her sign it over to me, or what? I've never dealt with shit like this

the title - did the named owner sign it releasing interest?

the title - does it name someone that the car was sold to

Did guy above sign a bill of sale selling it to the next guy?

If so, the last guy needs to just sign you over a bill of sale and a paperless title transfer form.

at least that's what I do in cali.  You might be raped in reg fees though

I have an 94 Integra RS with the same problem. they told me I need an attorney to find the last registered owner so I can get a title, because they can't release the information to just anyone (privacy)

First check the top sticky thread and make sure it isn't stolen.

Next if the title has been signed by the owner (or not, as long as isn't stolen) and the buyers name is filled in it will have to be registered in their name first OR you can write your name on the title after their name and just write or. "Joe Smith or Sinister" Then just have it removed when it get;s in your name.

OR

Sure this varies by state, buy probably about the same

i have sold cars that i bought and never signed the title, never had a problem. its like the person buys it from the person in the title, fuckers at the dmv downt need the tax on every owner anyway.

imo once a car is sold new and the taxes are paid on it there should never any other sales taxes on it, fucking bullshit.

don't even bother looking at it. by the time you get the title you'll have lost interest in the car: see my camaro

It would help is he told us the condition of the title. Worst case you have to get the title bonded which is 1.5 -2x the value of the car. Surety bond rates ( when I looked  coule days ago) were available for .75-3%. So even if the bond was $6k, and you paid the full 3% that's only $180. Just have the guy take it out of the mount for the car.
