thet're not on this site cause they rock K series

last place I worked had the same model robot for bonding carbon fiber hoods.
Amazing it can maintain accuracy with a 220lbs on the arm.
-
i saw that video on the news, and i guess one of them had his leg broken somehow by the machine
-
i remember seeing that at on of my old jobs. i used to program those robots to tig weld aircraft parts. it was all fusion welded light gauge (as small as .oo6") :o stainless, inconel, hastelloy, and titanium. they are pretty amazing what they can do.
too bad it didnt pay worth a shit.....

Autogenous on .006" with tig? Why? Sounds like a plasma application to me.

the way the part was formed they couldnt get it to fit together well enough for plasma or laser, it had to be tig, and even then there were alot of hand rework... when we first started that stuff i think i spend more time repairing than programming.
there was one baffle in peticular i remember very well, it had a step and a dimple right by the seam, and no matter how much the tried to get the seam right, it just would not match up well.
it was like this------_^___
with the --- being pre step, the ___ after the step down and the ^ representing the dimple. the weld seam was dead center, the dimple was offset to the right slightly, maybe 1/16" away from the seam, and the whole top if the baffle being maybe 5/8 wide...
it was a bitch

Ahh I see, for production I would still use plasma an just reduce the electrode setback to create a softer arc but unless you are making hundreds to thousands of something tig is so easy to setup and operate it probably would be a better choice. Sounds like a pretty cool place to work anyways.
