Title: ef strut rod/radius rod too long? nsfw
Post by: t_cel_t on June 20, 2009, 07:30:03 PM
this is fucking pissing me off it seems like the rod is like an inch too long causing the caster of the wheel to be like an inch back. the wheels looks like it hit the rear of the fender at one point and maybe because of the the rod breaking and then it was replaced with a longer one?

if i dont figure this out im getting the grinder out and making it fit correctly

anyone know how long the rod should be for a 91 hatch?

You may have 90-93 integra bars. I believe they are longer than the ef's

thanks, at least that somewhat confirms my belief that there are bars that are longer and its possibly the wrong one.

Measure the spacing of the bolts holding the rods to the LCAs.  Or take a picture.  DA units are further apart.

it is just slightly, but the wheel is sitting farther back than normal. if it was bent then the wheel would be closer to the front of the car.

jd, spacing is 1.85 inches

Cool, I'll measure my car in the AM, if someone else hasn't come along with the answer before I have it.

FYI, I used to be able to visually tell the difference, but I haven't done much suspension work in recent years.  I'm becoming useless in some respects.

ok check this, these are the repair guides off autozone.
they show different setups for the bushings on the rod, one uses 1 and one uses 2, there is currently 2 bushings on my car exactly like the 1st pic, although if it where setup like the 2nd pic i would get back that inch. but all the bushing kits i see have the 4 bushing(2 each side), so i have no fucking clue

You shouldn't trust chinese autopart vendors too far.  Both use two bushings.

your car was never in an accident? also would a different upper a arm cause this?

Is it just the one side that is "too long"?  Measure the other side and compare, if they are the same then start looking at your lower control arms, front crossmember etc for something out of whack.

Too lazy to walk outside to my car and measure just yet.  Sorry!

ok i tore the other side apart, made like 10 different measurements and everything seems to check out, cant find anything bent including the cross members.
measured the wheelbase, on drivers side 98.5in and pass side 97.75in, wikipedia says its 98.4in. caster angles on the struts appear identical, could it have a the wrong hub?

Check the inner LCA mount, chances are you will find a small kink in the crossmember.

control arms are totally strait, both sides look identical, im going to attempt to drop the cross members today if i dont die(its hotter then a nigger in florida)
imma going to bet that there is some tiny wrinkle on the top sides of one of the crossmembers that i havent felt, the bottoms are totally mint.
