Title: Chicago: Anyone from the area?
Post by: bigwig on June 29, 2009, 08:14:16 PM
I'm going to Chicago for 4 days and 3 nights for work in Mid July.  I'm looking for a few places not far from McCormick Place to get food and beer after a long day of work.  Throw out suggestions.

I'm not staying in Camden.  Chicago isn't bad.  I'm staying right on the lake and the hotel is attached to the convention center.  At the end of the day I do like to take a shower and go find a good place to eat and have a beer.  I'd also like to give a proper Chicago pizza a shot while I'm in town.  I can't really go out and have a good time since I'm working 8AM to 8PM every night I'm there, but a good meal and a couple of beers is just fine with me.

Don't forget to tell the Chamber rep you speak to that you're a sheltered white kid who gets mouthy.

Oddly enough I've lived in the Chicago suburbs my entire life and will be moving to Kalamazoo in 2 days, so I can't be a tour guide.  But for Pizza you want Unos, giordannos, or lou malnottis.  There are some projects not far from McCormick place so be careful there.  As far as a decent area to hang out near there try The UIC area which is where I went to school like Taylor and Morgan and head West on Taylor, you'll find Al's beef which is a really shitty place (stand up only) but classic well known chicago style beef sandwiches.  Hawkeyes is the college bar, there are a lot more now.  However you should take at least one night and check out the Wrigleyville lake view area.  Start at Clark and Addison (Wrigley field, and the cubs suck camel dicks)  and head south on Clark, countless bars, and countless snobby skanks.  Theres also the loop but that kinda touristy and just a bunch of restaurants.
