I plan on doing this in the future since I work in a non-ferrous foundry but I'm still learning about pattern making because that is the most expensive part of the process.
BTW can anybody get me a copy of solidworks or similar for free?
-
thats pretty bad ass!
-
I cant look away. I keep imagining the things I would cast.
-
I did some basic casting when I was in metalworks in grade 9.
shit is hard to do by hand( the pounding the clay sand into the mold part)
-
I did this in highschool too, it was a lot of fun, I hate cast parts, but making molds is fun.
-
...but making molds is fun.
Says the guy with a cnc mill. :P
-
Those hybridz guys are fucking hardcorez.
-
Seems like alot of work for a lazy fuck such as myself
-
that is very cool indeed. making parts ftw
-

Working to make the parts ftl
-
hahaah true......
well at least its not like cooking food in shit lol...... you cook for 2 hours and it takes 4 min to eat it lol..... at least you can admire the part lol and parking lot pimp it lol.

All that JB Weld has gotta be expensive

All that JB Weld has gotta be expensive
lol, cast intake mani, completely out of jb weld
-
One of those deals where you better know people. Nice read. I have molded polymer stuff before, pretty cool concept
In reality with so many of people in fields like this going belly up the possibilty of doing small runs of for example 50 is a real possibility.
-
You can get bids on jobs at www.cnczone.com (http://)
A little birdy was telling me the other day that it's apparently - for the small to medium sized business - cheaper to have shit made in America than it is in china, due to the economy. America... Fuck Yeah!!
-

-
No, I said made, not made well. That the parts aren't garbage is icing on the cake.
-
The chinesse want you to buy hundreds of parts with no samples of the part 99 percent of the time.
Hence why we saw the same ssautochrome manifold for 2 years before they actually put that little brace on it. Whoever imported them bought 5000 of the bastards.
There is a warehouse in the bay area that really shows the volume you have to buy these parts to make any money+have 10,000 sq ft of warehouse space. Basically only the rich Asians run the importing game.
I get great pricing on alot of my stuff done here but again even here orders of 50+ of smaller parts are a buddy buddy deal. In reality there isnt enough people in this country anymore that are creative enough to come up with products.
My father who is an electrical engineer is almost kinda confused I have created products with an old redneck with a high school education and the shit works. Society in America tells you sadly you need to spend your life in books before you can actually try something.
Failure/chaos are needed I hope people will get that concept again.

I disagree. There's a lot left to be created, and every market that has ever existed didn't happen just because the invention came along - it happened because someone educated the public that they needed the part. This is why HT exists. A lot of what is sold there is rubbish, but if you look closely there's some simple shit masquerading as high end gear that the average guy with work ethic can home fab for fifty-nine cents.
-
thats awesome! now if only he could do something about that clusterfuck of wiring in the upper left hand corner of the pictures... ;D
-
I cant look away. I keep imagining the things I would cast.
I'd make a cast of my penis. My god would I be rich, despite the 10lbs of aluminum it would require, each. :noel:
My buddy actually does cast parts for Ford 'cammers', shit you just can't find otherwise. He makes out pretty good despite low volume, since he found a good deal in China. I think he piggybacks orders like chris said, because I've never seen over 2 dozen parts in one box before.
Homemade parts are cheap, until you factor in time. Still it's cheaper because most people don't make >$50/hr. Some people do, or are such limp-wristed fags that they need other people to do it for them.
-
Cool stuff, but...
he casted his own shit, why the fuck didnt he do something about the failure injection angle? Jesus christ. :?:
-
whats wrong with the injector angle? I dont see anything wrong with it, looks like a pretty standard angle to me, and, possibly, with the ITB's and low vacuum, maybe he was going with a steeper angle to induce more turbulence in the fuel mist for more atomization...

Most likely he just didnt think about it.
Eh, it still better than slobbering carbuerators.
-
I love the injectors/fuellines ;D
piece of art man!
-
He was probably thinking about carbs when he angled them, since most accel pump nipples are a real shallow angle. However they aren't pressurized either. From what I gathered, he's probably going to make another, if not a couple, and incorporate lots of changes with it.
-
PM me and I will send you a copy.

Pretty dangeous pouring that molten aluminum without gloves or even sleeves
Product looks sweet though.

Pretty dangeous pouring that molten aluminum without gloves or even sleeves
What would those do, aside from catching fire?
-
Reinforced aluminum-covered nomex may help, but if a dime-sized glob wants to say hello...not much would help if you can't get it off ASAP.
-
Why'd Staleard delete his post about liking to weld barefoot in short sleeves with no gloves?
-
Because personal experience loses to Calebs.
What does that have to do with anything? There is no Calebs on this site.
-

Prevent molten aluminum from splaterring onto your skin and giving you severe burns
-
1500+ degree aluminum goes through shirt and shoes with impunity.
-
Not instantly, gives you plenty of time to shake it off
-
i just weld naked, end of story

i think we are talking about splatter not a blob, if you somehow splashed it on you, you are fucked either way lol
i never noticed getting burns when i welded, but i wouldnt wear gloves or sleeves when cutting metal because of sparks getting inside and burning me. (buying the right gloves might help you).use to have a lot of burns on my hands from metal getting in my gloves from cutting. i imagine if i had better gloves like when i welded it might help or wrap the ends close. being in the heat and cutting metal outside was a lot easier just to wear no gloves or shirt for that matter.

But I kind of like it when the grease stings my nipples.
Everywhere else, not so much.

LOL yeah its not the same as "chips, dips, chains, whips, candle wax on the nipples, bamboo under the fingernails ..................your normal kind of party" (Weird Science) ;D

Looked through the entire thread last night. Pretty damn cool project.
