So my buddy has a little shit truck, its a 1992 toyota pickup, he says it has the 22re and its a 5 speed. Seems like a decent candidate for a nice lil turbo setup. What do I need to know about turboing these? What about the fuel control? are the stock injectors good for anything or should i pickup some bigger ones? if so do dsm 450's fit? Also what could i use to control the fuel? chipping and socketing is out of the questions because i dont know how to do that AND this has to be done on the major cheap, which includes fluxcore'd madness. As far as bov im planning on using a cheap volvo that i'll steal from the junkyard, and probably some cheap ass side mount intercooler, i got piping and all that bullshit. Im thinking about using a standard .42/.48 t3 unless it needs something bigger, but that'll probably work for now. It has to be done on the cheap bitches.
cliff notes:
tell me how to turbo a 1992 toyota pickup
has to be on teh maj0r cheep
has a 22re engine i believe and is 5 speed
on the cheap
-
does it have a fuel return
-
im not sure, i'll check tomorrow, but i dont wanna FMU it
-
fmu=cheap=works on low boost
-
planning on 8-10psi
-
my friend lives in chico too.
-
so far the plan is this
sinktrap the stock manifold
t3 42/48 maybe slightly bigger
stock injectors
SAFC
volvo BOV
build the ic piping
cheap ass sidemount IC
boost guage and tach from harbor freight, on the cheap son

Safc will not work because of the voltage range the toyota MAF uses.
Ive done one before with a FMU, larger injectors, upgraded FP, and dial in the mixture by adjusting the spring tension in the MAF sensor w a WB or on a Dyno.
The same setup resulted me about 160whp, 183 ft lbs of tq. on a similar turbo as you describe.
Intro to come soon for all newb bashers...

Shit well thanks for letting me know. I really don't want to FMU it, I've heard about usig a mazda 626 maf for some reason.
What fmu did you use? Did you upgrade the fuel pump too? And get and adjustable FPR?

Most of my parts were leftover pickings from a buddys import shop.
My mods included a used factory evo fuel pump (190 lph i think), some saab injectors i hacked to make fit (320's i think...) and a FMU hooked to the fuel return line, not sure what brand or type it was.
Never heard of using a mazda maf before though.
Ill dig for some pics i have of it i used a dsm sidemount and cut out the inner fender to fit.
Was a def sleeper for a shitbox pickup.
Suprised many a ricers.

i'm suprised this dyno didnt blow the welds on his intake manifold...

i know. its just funny to see. im sure my crx dyno would be worse then that.
