Title: Identify these rims
Post by: Doug on July 10, 2009, 10:10:33 PM
I found a guy selling these rims on craigslist that I thought would look good on my Civic to get rid of the 17"s that are on it. He said they are American Racing and missing two center caps, but I can't find out what model they are to get more center caps pricing.

Also he's asking $100 for them, do you think this is a fair price?

I think stock honda steelies will be more then sufficient till you have turbo'd something. $100 is halfway to boost.

If that's halfway to boost then sign me up. Don't see it happening.

Jesus Doug, do you or do you not see the VW symbol clearly in the first center cap?

That's not the center cap that goes on the rims. Notice they are universal 4 lug, I highly doubt VW went through the trouble to make uni 4 lug rims. He just put VW centers on because he has a old school bug.

Foowee charge piping, complex fence post mani, black whornet oil lines, turbo thrown over the fence of the local scrapyard, chip kit, dsm injectors from the same yard, and a cheap air pressure gauge from harbour frieght.

10psi will turn "even doug" out.

those centercaps are rarer than hen's teeth. also, are there any casting marks on the wheel itself?

I'm talking about needing the large white center cap you can see missing from picture 2. The middle round shits I could car less about.

Steelies

I don't know about your area but people around here charge as much for steelies as rims. Junkyards here suck ass. Can't go behind the gate and charge as much if not more sometimes than Honda. I found two sets of steelies with shitty tires on craigslist. One for $100 and the other for $200 with hub caps and 50% tread.

In other words they are worth $$$ to vw people. Probably enough to turbo your ride.

Guys response when I asked if he happened to know the model #:

Quote
Man to be honest I haven't had much luck tracking down information on these rims. The manufacturer, size and backspacing are cast on the inside of the rim and there is this cast as well "Model 1 Mold" , but nothing with a definite model #.

All he knows is they are American Racing, 16", and universal 4 lug.

I found a local with some 18" chrome rims he said he just wants out of his way for $75. Don't look too bad (if that's your thing). No scratches, dents, or curbage. I of course don't want them, but was tempted to throw on eBay for a quick profit.

Found some on another car on the interwebs, thing is he says they are American Racing "Type 29" model.... which isn't a model of theirs at all.
