i am ashamed i happen to know the acronym to it. anyways says the laser gets ruined by vibration of a piston engine. i wonder how a rotary motor would do.

sounded like they were correcting the vibration issue by delivering it by fiber optics?

They've used quartz lenses to look into combustion engines in the past, as well as use pulses of light to fire off combustion.  Likely it'll be part of the "spark plug" and a removable, replaceable, ideally cleanable part. 

I think they are misusing the word "spark" here.  I could be entirely wrong, but it's a little hard to turn photons directly into an electron flow.  More than likely it's just a pulse of light and they're using "spark" for laymen.
