Title: Kia Spectra axles, anyone remove/replace them?
Post by: d112crzy on July 17, 2009, 02:57:27 PM
So I'm doing a rebuild on my dads 03 Spectra and the motor is ready to be pulled I just can't see to get the fucking axles out.

I can replace an axle on any Honda in less than 10 minutes, but I can't fucking get these fucking axles out of either side(hub or trans/intermediate shaft). I bent my fucking pry bar and crow bar already.

Anyone ever done one of these?

something tells me you forgot to do something. Axles should pull out easy regardless

The only tough part is getting halfshafts to break from the axle

+1, pretty dam sure they just pop out but not everything is as easy as working on a honda, sometimes you got to be a man about it.

I'm gonna give it another go sometime later this week. I'll check it out if maybe theres something else holding it.

Here's a pic, maybe the gear lookin things on the hubs are holding you up? The axles are inserted into the trans the same way as into a honda, they should pry out. They also provide this tip: If driveshaft is frozen in front wheel hub, spray a penetrating solvent into splined area and then reinstall locknut so it is flush with end of shaft. Tap nut with a brass hammer to remove driveshaft.

Finally solved my problem. I said fuck it and yanked on them. Took about 3 good yanks on each side and they came out.

Still can't take them out of the hub. I tried hammering them out and no luck. I looked for that gear looking thing, but I didn't find anything. OH well, at least now they're out.

and the weirdest fucking thing, the "joint shaft", aka mid shaft, is male. So that means the fucking passenger side axle is a female end. It's fucking weird, I thought I had broken it when I pulled it out(where's the dee dee dee smiley when you need it?)
