you didnt get lucky by not deploying the bags. had you done that they would have totalled the car out, which would have been doing you a favor.

That sucks.  It looks fixable, but sometimes cars have issues after being banged up for various reasons.

its better to plow the deer than kill yourself hitting a pole... a lot of people die trying to miss animals

Eh, I've known people to get fucked up by hitting deer.  That shit hops and comes in through the window you win a trip to the ER to have hooves surgically removed from your tonsils.

less likely than running off the road and dying.

at 15-20, hit the pole trying to get away from the deer. the pole is a known entity. huge chance you're just going to clip the deer's legs out from under it and its coming through the windshield.
sons of bitches clear 4' every time they stride. they go over the 4' barbed wire fence to get in the soy field constantly. tuffs of deer fur on the barbs all the time.

same problem with black cows. they wont get out of the road, they're hard to see and they just go over the hood.

one of the guys at work hit a cow once...was not good, lol. came up the windshield hit the A-piller, and his instinct was to block his face...and broke his arm. bright side is the farmer covered meds/car... but, he didnt get any steaks >:(

cool your ok, deer lives to get shot (or hit by a scooby) another day, and the scooby will give 'fixed' to still be a pos.... ::)

That sucks man.  Sorry about the lack of an intro post, I'll get to that tomorrow.  Been a lurker long enough to know how it works here.

I hit a deer in my accord last fall.  Didn't swerve because there was a car in the oncoming lane, and a ditch with rocks in it on the right.  Locked up the brakes at 55-60, hit it doing about 25.  I got off the brake and floored it right before I hit to get the nose up.  It smashed the brand new blackhoused headlight on the passenger side, and bent the hood down into where the headlight was.  Also slightly bent the rad support, enough to kill the radiator.  It is pretty cool to drive around with blood all up the side of the car though.

Could have been a lot worse.  Scooby's are prety solid cars.  I wish I had gotten to eat the deer I hit.

so you have been lurking since we started back in 2006?

I actually know of nobody who's not swerved and been injured, that only happens with moose/elk. My parents were actually motorcycling behind a tour bus out west when it hit a moose, it killed 7 people. My mom has hit an actual dozen of deer, one on a motorcycle, Wisconsin has a crazy deer population. Most at once was four - 2 frontal, one front fender, another rear bumper (last 2 ran INTO her). Never has she swerved, never has she been hurt.

Swerving on the other hand has landed 2 friends in serious shit. They ended up flippning an SRT4 (normal speeds) into a tree (2 feet off the ground), crushing 3 bones in the driver's back.
